Announcements / Re: Account Verification Time!
July 02, 2007, 04:04:44 AM
Eep, I've been out of town and I just got back to check my e-mail and now I've got no e-mail to check!  I've gone through the verification system, any idea how long it will take to get my stuff back up?  And does this mean I won't receive the e-mails sent to me during the locked time?

Technical Support / So, er, I broke my email inbox.
March 25, 2007, 06:09:25 PM
Er, hey, I did too.  Not sure if this is the same problem, since I can access my email (the right frame) but the left frame, where all the links to my folders should be comes up as this error:

ERROR:
ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: CREATE "~/Trash"
Reason Given: CREATE failed: Can't create mailbox node /home/add//Trash: File exists

buh?

Announcements / Status, Plans, and Questions...
March 08, 2006, 05:28:30 AM
1.  I'm really worried about the email bit, because I had several important messages saved and my xepher.net email is my life (all my modly notifications go there!  *weeps*), but I'll live.  Just cross my fingers that nothing there was lost.  *whaps self for being a dumbass*

2. Webserver
SCP (occasionally)
FTP (if you get rid of it, I won't mind too much)
Email (OMG YES *cries*)

3. I wouldn't mind losing FTP and just having to use SCP.  I use it occasionally (depeding on which icon I find on my desktop first, haha).  As for the web access....muh.  I've seen ok ones and I've used ones I really did not like.  But I'd manage.  Anything you need to do, go for it.

4. Maid service.  I mean, er.

5. S'good.

6. Erk, I don't know.  I've never been much of an advertiser.  You go... do whatever it is you need to do to get more monies.  Tally ho!

7. Polls were fun.  I'll have to second (or is it third?) the whole "zoning out" thing after the applications built up, I'm sorry.  Real life and fandom has sort of been kicking me in the ass lately.  *resolves to try harder*

Technical Support / Code Error
February 11, 2006, 11:40:07 PM
Hey, does anyone have the address of that website you can run your HTML through and it will point out all the errors in your code?  I know Data posted it here somewhere in response to someone else's site, but I can't seem to find it ^^;.

Thanks!

Technical Support / Problem with FTP
February 09, 2006, 07:25:07 PM
Erk.  Yeah.  Um, forgive me for sounding completely retarded, Data.  ^_^;;  You're very helpful and I appreciate this a lot, I'm just secretly utterly computer illiterate.

I've tried the SSH thing before (this FTP problem has been going on for a few weeks now) but I can't for the life of me figure out how to install it.  Retarded, I know.  This is where you go to download it, right?  The problem is, all these little folders and files are completely incomprehensible to me.  I don't even know what to start clicking on to be able to download and install it.  I feel bad asking someone to completely walk me through an installation, of all things (not to mention my computer buddy came up, looked at it, and just said "nope. no idea.").

*sigh* And I liked SmartFTP, too.  But yes, if there is no other option, I'll try to figure out SSH (get the RCC to come up again, I suppose).  I just thought that maybe the new error message might mean something.

Thank you!

Technical Support / Problem with FTP
February 09, 2006, 01:51:21 AM
And again!  FTP fails me.  I keep getting this error message:

An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.

Well, actually that's a new one.  I had an RCC look at it, and he says it's not a problem with FTP since he can connect to his server through it, just not xepher.net.  Xepher, what do I doooooooo?   *weeps*

Quote from: XepherI don't "get" it. I just see a bunch of LJ posts. What's supposed to be done or happen or what?
You sign up for a fandom/character/pairing, get a table like this, and draw pictures based on the prompts.  All of your pictures have to be of what you signed up for.

It's quite the challenge, but a hell of a lot of fun.

Art / Fanart ho!

I don't know if anyone's noticed this rash of communities of Livejournal, but I thought it was a great concept and I encourage everyone to sign up or even just take a look at the prompts if you need some inspiration for your artwork.

Fanart 100  100 prompts for 100 drawings of the fandom/character/pairing or your choice

Fanart 50  A slightly less strenuous version of the above

Eyecandy 69   An um... very raunchy version of the above

I was very tempted to sign up for Fanart 100, but wimped out at the last moment and signed up for Fanart 50 instead.  The prompts are more interesting over there, anyway.  :P  My fandom is Weiss Kreuz: General.  So far, it's been very challenging and fun.

You could probably even modify these for original characters, if you like.

(There's also an eqivalent for fanfiction, but that should probably go in a different section on the forums.  ;) )

Damn right, bitches!  Carry your own damn drinks.

I love you.  In a completely non-creepy, unsexual way.

Writing / NaNoWriMo 2005!
December 02, 2005, 12:25:32 AM
I made it about 20,000 words in.  I've discovered that I'm a really slow, meticulous writer.  Except when drunk.  I am planning on continuing working on it though.  I guess I'll just have to pull a Hemingway and write the entire rest of it while smashed, otherwise it will take me years, haha.  The drunk bits seem like the best ones, anyway.

General Chat / Oooh, Peguins!
November 17, 2005, 12:03:43 AM
The problem with saying that "they broke up" is that it anthropomorphizes these penguins, and gives them human motivations for their actions.  You can't point to a gay penguin couple and say "oh look, honey, see how they love each other and are committed to each other."  The connotations of "committment" and "family" have completely different meaning for humans than they do for penguins, or any other animals, for that matter.  The gay rights activists may have been right about pointing to the penguins as an example of a biological basis for homosexuality across the animal kingdom, but that's not the issue.  We want gay people to be treated as people, not animals.  We have to decide what is right and wrong on a human, moral level.

The activists are just hurting their case by trying to use the penguins to prove that gay couples can raise a happy family.  Not just because one of them ran off with some other penguin from California, but because this animal family is not a human family in the deeper sense of the word.  If you're trying to say that gay couples can commit and can raise perfectly well-adjusted children, the place to look for examples of this is in the real world, not some penguin fantasy land.

Sorry.  I just get a little irritated when people go all "squee" over this stupid penguin pair rather than, you know, going out and actually supporting some gay people.  By like *gasp* voting!  Or donating to advocacy organizations!  Or campaigning!
