News is different than a topic stickied to the top of every forum (without needing to duplicate it). You can't place an entire set of forum rules or anything in the small news area, but you can place it in a global post (announcement).

I suggest science as a theme... now to think of actual titles.

Right! FTP is actually a common hack point on servers, most especially when anon is enabled.

The only thing I dislike is that it has no feature for a global announcement, which you've gotta mod in separately. That seems like something that should be core standard if you ask me. Aside from that, you can build an entire site from SMF. You can literally set each forum with a custom view, AND this forum supports forum nesting. So you can make the front page use it's own little template (front page of your site), and every sub forum use it's own template, and hell even have a sub forum actually be your "forums" for the site.

It's pretty hot.

Well, what "theme" are you going to use for the names? It's kinda important in the whole creation of the names themselves (also would be neat to have names for higher than 500's  ).

SMF is a VERY nice forum software, I switched over to it about two months ago from YaBB for my WoW guild (which I no longer play but still host their site, not on my Xepher acct). The default smilies kinda suck though, so I created a smiley pack using YaBB's since they were better. 

Where I don't really see how imap would function any differently on the client side of things despite how the server is set up, no problem.

Some of them actually hide the text with javascript (and if you turn off javascript you never get to see it unless you view source).

I can write a really easy tutorial on how to use Mozilla Thunderbird for IMAP connections. It's actually pretty easy to do.

Perhaps if you set up your system to only use mailboxes for people who actually need them too on the new server?

I'm allergic to cats... I used to be like in your picture, but now it's a mild irritation. It's still annoying since just about EVERYONE owns a damn cat.

The funny thing is, technically though be it that they don't get the image, they still get an image which still steals at least some bandwidth. It just makes them look more like a thief.
