Ah... you're actually hosting roms. That's gonna be a "no." The "delete in 24 hours" thing is a rumor. You can't copy it for even a second. Copyright (thanks for nothing DISNEY!) goes for author's lifetime + 90 years or some such BS. Anyway, all ROM downloads are in violation of copyright, save a few where the original authors/owners gave explicit revocation of their rights. As I don't allow any copyright violations to be hosted on xepher.net, it seems your site is not gonna be allowed.

You can... Just be aware that your site is gonna be judged on content and creativity. Premade layouts (if they're obvious or cliche) are gonna detract from that.

Oh, about 35 million people in the US alone, with another 20 million expected by next year. Worldwide it's over 150 million, expected to be a half billion by the end of the decade.

Knowhow Trading Post / Computer Challenge!

Dells are just fine... a little propritary in some hardware, and they tend to put too much junk software on at the factory... but good machines. I've reinstalled windows on dozens of them in the past couple months alone. Registry errors like that usually have one of two causes. The first is hardware failure... the drive/controller/powersupply/goat is going bad. The second is a virus of some sort that's hurt things. Dell should've given him some disks to reinstall the OS with. If you boot off the windows disk, there should be an option somewhere in the process for a "repair install" that will replace all the system files and such while leaving the rest of the drive (and his data) intact. If he doesn't have anything important he's worried about losing though, I'd suggest that you delete the partition (during the install) and create a new one. Those options will be at the "pick a location" bit during the install. That'll ensure that everything starts off clean.

If you could actually get it to boot currently though, I'd tell you to go right-click "my computer" pick "manage" and then go to "event viewer" and look in the "system" section for any disk errors. If you see a bunch of errors about "bad blocks" then that's a good sign the drive is failing. I normally wouldn't expect that on a brand new machine... but then again, I've seen it a couple times on a brand new machine, and the two new drives I just got both seem to be bad from the factory as well. I'm on my laptop right now as I watch the drive diagnostics throw out errors on the desktop.

Superior? Ha! I've got a 10mbps for the server, 4mbps for home, and another 3mbps at work. Debating the upgrade to 8mbps for home too. :-)

My luck never fails... I order TWO new hard drives. Put them in, turn on the computer, and things start locking up. One of the drive makes awful chirping/squeaking noises and throws dozens of errors. Looking deeper, it looks like my power supply is going bad. Replaced that and the drive is still bad. The second drive I'm testing now. It failed several self tests, but that could be because the computer kept locking up while it was being formatted.

Anyway, I'm typing this from the tiny laptop keyboard in the living room. I STILL don't have a functioning desktop, so it's gonna be a while before I start reviewing applications. As I said before though, a casual glance at some of them does show some nice art and such.

Heheh... you and everyone one else. Check this out: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-5890424.html

Apparently two of the largest backbone internet providers are having a bit of a tiff. Cogent is the main provider for the datacenter where Orca (the xepher.net server) is hosted. If your ISP uses Level 3 for upstream bandwidth... well tell these megaliths to stop breaking each other's toys.

Also, gaming sites, while allowed, rarely showcase enough originality and content to get in. Not saying "no" yet, just letting you know.

Well, dang it. My hard disk on my personal computer crashed. This will further delay me in getting around to reviewing applications. On a casual glance though, I see several that look quite promising already. Please be patient though.

I don't know where I said anything about "primarily english" sites... We've got quite a few in other languages. That's not an issue. The fact that none of the artwork is visible (error 403 forbidden) and the lack of much else in the application... that's a problem.
