Web Design / stats tracking?
July 29, 2005, 03:55:40 AM
Well, most external "services" are just going to be hit counters. You've already got one of those with the phase 2 newsbox... one that doesn't get reset like the stats do. Also, all the old log files are still around, and should be world readable. You can look into the arcane commands to pass to analog (the thing that generates the stat pages from the log files) to make it analyze whatever time period you want.

Flash? FLASH? Ugh, if javascript is "flakey" then flash is a dehydrated leper with dandruff!

General Chat / Rocky Mountains

It was a marmot... also know as a woodchuck. I couldn't get a good shot of it, as it seemed a bit under the weather as well as under the rock. The first squirrel I thought was the best, but all the times it was actually standing in a cool pose, my stupid camera's autofocus tried for the wrong point. I think one of the first "toys" I'm gonna buy now that I've got a good paying job is a good camera.

So, went hiking some this summer. Took pictures too.

This first set is a few from a small hike just a few minutes out of town here.

This second set is from an all day hike over in RMNP... about three hours drive (and we left at 4am.)

Couple highlights for the second album.

I just love the dark woods.

Yeah, but that javascript was flakey at best. If you didn't do things just right, it'd drop tags in wrong places, or in one worst-case scenario I had, eat the entire post.

General Chat / Any other WoW players here?
July 24, 2005, 08:24:47 PM
I hear that... I hated EQ and most other online games for the same reason. Surprisingly though, WoW seems to NOT be filled with jackasses. Sure, there's a few here and there, but most of the people I run into are actually helpful and nice.

I'm guessing that's a "no."

General Chat / Spamalot
July 24, 2005, 05:11:47 AM
So I was listening to the audio recording of "Spamalot" and went to see if there might be a video of the play for sale... Didn't find one, but did find this commerative edition meat-like product. Note the "features" bit... I don't know about you, but when it comes to "trusted" brands, I don't think mystery meat is going to make my list.

Yeah, but I'd have the largest post count anyway... This just makes it a joke.

Actually, it's quite easy...  just click your name here, type in the number, and hit save. Looking it up on the old forum takes the most time, about 20 seconds.

No worries, I was just discussing my thoughts on said topic. Wasn't a criticism.

(As a side note, I like this quick-reply box at the bottom of the page a lot!)

I know it sounds like news nowdays, but this sort of thing has been around for quite a while in game. After all, you get a bunch of young lonely males programming entertainment, and it's bound to happen. In Quest For Glory 2 (which ran on 16 color monitors if you were lucky enough to have one) there was a hidden bit where the arabian princess goes to change clothes behind this screen before you try to sneak out of the palace. If you'd bought the "X-Ray Goggles" from the magic shop way earlier in the game, you could see through screen. Not that those additional 12 pixels were all that entertaining, but... Another example was the Nude Raider mod for tomb raider. Then there was the whole slew of leisure suit larry games.

Point is, it's not new, the graphics have just gotten better. Well, that, and politicians have decided that video games are finally worth making an issue of. (AKA, they actually know what a video game is now.)

If you'd like your post count from the old forums restored to the new system, post a message here. If you had a different user name on the old one, make sure to point that out.

Quote from: Lei.. good idea. But, honestly, isn't the four line limit a little too little? :D Loving the smilies :D:D:D
Perfect example... No offense, but you're posting a single line of text, and complaining that four lines of signature is too little. I'm probably a bit old fashioned, but I think signatures are meant to just be that little bit at the end of a letter or post.
