It's not actually FTP, it's SCP (Secure CoPy.) I'm considering shutting down FTP altogether and requiring SCP use.

Applications / Application Status: CLOSED!

Okay, RMAed the new drives and got back two new-new drives. They work. I'm running on 'em now and it's shiny happy fun. Now I have to get around to rewriting a bit of the back-end code to meet the new apache config layout and after that I can start reviewing applications. Oh, and I just had an old friend move to town, and we're trying to find a large place to move to, and etc. Life is hectic. I wouldn't have it any other way!

To put that in context, Jack Thompson said something to the effect that he was proud to be a foot solider for god, and Tim (the artist of the above) was reminded of the foot-clan soliders from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Quote from: grieverI think they're all literary masochists.
But you repeat yourself. Seriously, don't literary asperations and masochism go hand-in-hand? Or have I been doing it wrong all these years?

Would you rather drive in carefully scheduled circles for 8-10 hours a day, or reinstall windows several dozen times a week?

Oh... wait... That's right, I have no life!

Writing / NaNoWriMo 2005!

I tried it last year, and failed. I'm debating giving it another go, but man... I can barely find time to run xepher.net these days. So I don't think I'll make it. The story would be the failed attempt from last year, reworked so as to avoid the same failure (hopefully.)

Basically a sci-fi story. Nuclear engineering is "quaint" and so the main character only finds a job by volunteering to go spend time training aliens on a recently contacted world that's a few centuries behind earth in technology. Things aren't always as they seem though, and...

But enough of that. It needs to be told properly, as this is a story I've had in my head for nearly a decade now. If I don't get it done this time, I will write it eventually.

I (or rather "xepher.net") gave $100 to child's play last year. I'll likely do the same this year. Maybe I should donate it in Jack Thompson's name.

I've removed the directories for you, but there was no problem or error with them, they simply still had files in them. Your FTP client is likely braindead, and doesn't look for hidden files. Use something better http://winscp.sourceforge.net

"If video games really affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in dark rooms with flashy, neon lights, munching small, white pills and listening to repetitive, electronic music."

Well, since there's no "hobaku" account, it's gonna help to know what your username actually is, as well as what directories you can't delete.

On the nerd test (the second one) I scared even myself...
"59.523809523809526% of me is a huge nerd! How about you?"

I knew I was in trouble when they asked about triva from Sluggy Freelance, and when I actually all the h2g2 stuff... the quotes, the misquoted questions, and the funky number conversions to weird bases and binary for the answer. The only bits I really missed were the stuff from fantasy novels. I don't read much fantasy... but good lord! I even got the sith lords in the proper order. *cry*

As for the geek test... I got the best score ever! 42% (Major Geek) Awesome!

EDIT: Finished second test.

Wow... that's so incredibly generic it hurts.

Let's make our own quiz... All you have to do is  pick an associated noun/verb and fill in where appropriate.
Some fun pairs to try might be:

drink/drinking
read/reading
breathe/breathing
help/helping
talk/talking
work/working

And for the ultimate hilarity
"masturbation/masturbating"

I feel great when (verb)
I feel unhappy, cranky or irritable when not (same verb)
I feel angry when someone asks me to stop.
I crave more (noun)
I think about (noun) when not (verb)
More and more of my friends are (verbers)
I neglect family and friends in order to (verb)
I neglect responsibilities at home or at work. (Apparently I can't _not_ check this no matter what verb/noun fill in.)
I try to cut back on (verb) time but can't.
I (verb) more often than I plan.
I (verb) for longer periods than planned. I can't seem to quit.
I lie about my (verb) time.
I sometimes sneak time to (verb.) Sometimes late into the night.
I spend more than twenty hours a week (verb)
I continue to (verb) in spite of negative consequences.
My family and friends think I (verb) too much.
I have arguments with family or friends about how much time I spend (verb)
I have large credit bills for (verb)

Hmm... Never knew I had so many addictions. Or maybe I shouldn't trust a psychological evaluation from a website with that many registered trademarks. (Seriously, just look at the number of circled Rs on this page!)

For those of you that view this after today, the permanant link is http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php?date=2005-10-14&res=l
And be sure to read the news article for that comic and the one before, as they both go into more detail on the issue.

But yes, Jack's "modest proposal" has gotten a lot of people up in arms. Jack Thompson is stupid. That's all there is to it.
