Title: would you rather?
Post by: thefemnazi on October 19, 2005, 12:26:22 AM
So, I've started a new journaling idea with my students, and thought it would be fun here as well.  Feel free to post your answers and your own 'rathers.'

Would you rather wear clothes that are 10 years out of fashion or your underwear on your head?

Note, if any of you post really good ones, I'd like permission to use them in my classroom.  :)

Clothes that are ten years out of fashion will soon be in fashion anyway (the 1600's is where it's at!). I'd go for the underwear thing.

And personaly I'd rather stick boxers on my head, because you can get them to stand up or flop around a bit better than any other type of underwear (womens or men). I like to pretend I'm a superhero sometimes. I don't know if I would one day just do it and go out in public, but if someone said, "Hey Gwyn, you know what would make you even cooler?"

"What."

"If you put these boxers/breifs/panties/etc. on your head all day."

"Why I'd LOVE TO!"

Yo wouldn't even have to pay me, as long as I can get someone to laugh it's all good.

Wearing underpants on your head is fun. I did it once out of a dare (from my dad no less) and I liked it so much I spent the majority of the day with tighty-whities on my head. Never tried boxers, sounds like fun though. (this suddenly reminded me of pantsman for some reason.....)

but anyway yes, after the pith helmet, deviruchi hat (RO reference! run awaaaay!), half a darth vader mask, the giant striped raver hat, the mad hatter hat, the pumpkin beret, and that crazy medusa get-up, wearing underwear on my head would be pretty much normal. (Especially around Santa Cruz. I'm more likely to stare in awe someone dressed in normal clothes than a guy with an accordian and a suit made of bubblewrap)

And just as gwyn said, stuff from 10 years ago will always come back in style. I bet my mom wishes she kept those clothes from the 70s about now ;)

I don't like style. I don't care. I'll walk anywhere in anything... as long as I'm fully covered :D But the under wear on your head thing sounds fun! Most people know me as the wierd little girl now that does stupid things, so I doubt they'll be all that surprised. Plus I like embarrassing my buddies :)

Would you rather sit in a public bench pretending to crash an airplane or make out with a bag od potato chips (on the bench)?

Sadly enough, I have seen my friends to both, but never in public. Heh heh

Would you rather drive in carefully scheduled circles for 8-10 hours a day, or reinstall windows several dozen times a week?

Oh... wait... That's right, I have no life!

I'd rather wear clothes 10 years out of fashion.  People can see underwear all the time (all thong wearers should pull up their pants please!).  It's not a novelty now.

I'd take the windows thing too. Then again, windows isn't hard to install so it's pretty much set it to go and let it be till it's done. At least that's been my experience in every windows installation I can think of that isn't pre 98.

Edit: On a side note, my server is now up and running. Elipsis is online! This doesn't mean much now, but hopefully I can have some sort of multiplayer game programmed up and running sometime in the near future. Currently I'm experimenting in writing server code under Linux. This is a first for me. I successfully wrote a small server for Windows, but then again from what I can tell, sockets are sockets eh? ;)

I think I'll join Xepher's "I've got no life" club :P

I'd do underwear on my head, simply because I wear clothes 10 years out of fashion anyway.  Yeah, that's right, I raid my mom's closet.  I am so cool.  Or maybe cheap.

How about clothes 1000 years out of fashion?  (give or take a couple of hundred ;) )

Just think:  No zippers, no buttons....nothing but ties, ties, and more ties!

It's grand fun to design a medieval/renaissance costume too!  Mine's going to have 181 holes in the shirt to tie the sleeves onto the bodice (and together ^^), and 6 to keep the skirt from falling completely off of me! XD

But, going back to the original question, I have noticed that updated versions of bellbottoms are back in style now, so the 80s (and 90s) are probably next in line.  So underwear is probably more of a novelty.
If you make people put on what they actually wear that is. ;)

I don't get it... what's the difference between emo and goth? A LITTLE confused over here O_o
Title: would you rather?
Post by: Databits on November 05, 2005, 07:57:45 AM
Actually there is a bit of difference. Goth people are not all emotional, most simply see things a little different than most other people. It's a social group, just like any other social group.

Or if you want the cynical approach, we'll do the scorecard, listing the winner in each category.

Ankhs: Goth
Converse Shoes: Emo
Excessive Eyeshadow: Goth
Excessive Lyrics: Emo
Thick-leather Tomes: Goth
Thick-rimmed Eyeglasses: Emo
Delusions of Self-Vampireness: Goth
Delusions of Self-Enlightenment: Emo
Ear Piercings: Goth
Face Piercings: Emo
Marilyn Manson: Goth
Coheed and Cambria: Emo
Leftover Metal Fans: Goth
Leftover Swing Fans: Emo
Most Likely To Kill Self (And write bad poetry about it first): Goth
Most Likely To Kill Self (And write whiny songs about it first): Emo

I think that about covers it. Basically, emo is goth without the occultic symbolism. Conversely, Goth is pretty much emo without the conformity.

For further info one should, as always, check wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goth

EDIT: Just saw the most hilarious distinction. "They are a lot like Goths, but less Marilyn Manson and more Harry Potter."

Poor Japan.

[rant]
Bah... Emo is for people who can never see the better side to life. Many "emo" people I know stay indoors and hide in the dark in their rooms, then complain that they are depressed all the time. Eventually some end up on some sort of anti-depressant pills that just, OMG, don't seem to help them. Then expect everyone to feel sorry for them.

Well no shit! Sitting in a dark room on the internet or in the corner listening to music all day isn't good for you. Believe it or not, sunlight (in non-excessive quantities) is actually good for you. So is movement and healthy food. My complaint is, if life is so bad, don't take the cowards way out. Nobody is going to come and make decisions for you. It's all up to you to change the way your life is. Right?

When people just sit around and complain about thier life without trying to do anything about it. Then turn to me and complain that they hate their life and expect for me to feel sorry for them. It pisses me off. Plain and simple, I have no problem with trying to help someone, so long as they have the ambition to help themselves.

haha... a lot of teenagers I know are like that, cept they can be preps, nerds and jocks too sometimes (loosely based on stereotypes, I think) the fact is, that is the majority of teenagers' problem solving technique; sit back, whine, don't give a damn of the reasons and expect everyone to agree.

ah... the emo song. http://emosong.ytmnd.com/ ha ha...

Oh goodness.  I think I know that girl bottom second to the left.  As in, she's one of my LJ friends.  Haha.  And that guy bottom left with the lip length hair over his eyes has some serious split ends.

Being a greesy slob these days is popular too apprently. When I was in highschool I wanted to scream at half the guys to cut/wash their hair. Or at least shave that fluf they call facial hair of their faces.

The problem with shaving the lighter fluff is that it comes back thicker. I deliberately never shaved because I don't want thick facial hair. Really... I'd rather deal with the light can't see it stuff than the thick daily maintenance stuff. My head is another question though. I can't stand going a day without a shower as greesy hair just feels damn uncomfortable to me.

As for hair cuts... for some time I was keeping it cut short, but now I'm growing it back out. For a reason... See when I had longer hair my grandma always complained about it, how she didn't like it and I should cut it. I couldn't go near her without her making some comment about it. Eventually I had it cut, and she was happy for a few... till she found out about kanar. Now she complains about that on a constant basis like she did my hair. So now I'm growing it back out just to spite her. My reaction when she complains is going to be along the lines of, "Why should I cut it? Last time I did that you just found something else that I do to complain about. So why bother? I'm sick of the complaining! Deal with it." Then sit and watch to see what the reaction is.

Yeah, the greesy slob part is kinda lame too. Kinda goes hand in hand with the people who want to sit and complain but not do anything. Granted I do sit on a computer A LOT, mostly is coding something or doing homework (geeze it's my college major for goodness sake ). But I also have a life outside it. I love sparring with padded weapons and hanging out with friends. Hell I just went to the Animania con in Ann Arbor this last week, even though they didn't really show anything any good and it pretty much all sucked.

Ok, fine you don't shave it because you're lazy, which I'm not fond off, but I'll accept that :p. The guys who sport their fluff as mighty signs of their manhood because they can finaly spring a few hairs on their faces, that's what anoys me. The guys have these ratty mustaches and beards but neber shave them because they don't want to be hairless on ther faces (although I'm sure some of it boils down to lazyness). I knew one guy who had a ratty gotee(sp?) so he DID shave, just not the stuff that looked like crap.

My problem with the hair is that I see a boy from behind and think it's a girl :(. I mean, men can handle long hair and pull it off, boys can't. That's my oppinion :p

Who's/what's kanar?

working in a high school, I see them all, and they all look like dorks.  eventually, I sorted them into four categories:

My students (the kids with special needs who have developed with a much healthier social outlook)

The kids that wear black, thinking they are the first generation to do so and therefore are unique and creative

The kids that live for their high school experience and drive me nuts when they spend their class time making out in the hallways.

The kids just trying to hang on until college.  You can spot these kids by the "please ignore me, in four years I won't have to deal with other kids making out in the hallways" looks.
