Web Design / Re: Paintchat canvas size

Okay, thanks. It's actually not an oekaki-- multiple people draw on the same canvas at once in paintchat whereas oekaki is not interactive, it's one user only.

Thank you though, I will check around and see what I can find out from other people. It may just be the size limit on the particular version of the applet I installed (hard to tell because the program was written in Japanese and specs/config translations are virtually nonexistent).

If I find out how to fix it, I'll post here for posterity.

Well, I set it to 1500 x 2500 or something and it's showing up at the default 1200 x 900.

I call that tiny I suppose because I'm accustomed to paintchat boards holding ten to twenty users at once and the canvas size is generally enormous so that everyone can have room to draw at the same time. The default canvas is sufficient for a few artists at one time, but not for very many. If you Google paintchats, you'll find boards that have canvas sizes that range around 2000 x 4000 and higher probably.

I'm wondering why my configured settings aren't being applied...

Web Design / Paintchat canvas size

Hello all,

I recently installed a paintchat (located here) and though I configured the canvas width and height with SSH, the values didn't take. The configuration file displays them the way I entered them but the canvas is stuck at the tiny default size. I backed out, turned everything off and back on again a few times to no avail. (All of my other configuration settings worked flawlessly on the first try, however.)

I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and might know a solution?

Thanks very much!

Thank you!

Oh, whoops I'm sorry-- when I canceled my last hosting I also transferred the domain and I forgot to set up that email again. Please send to: contact(at)kim-maida.com instead.

I completely understand! I don't even want a portal site anymore anyway, so that's out of the picture. :) I'm going to set up my portfolio and probably at least two galleries.

Okay, understood! I'll set up the nameservers.

Thank you so much. :)

Thank you for your reply!

Yes, I'd like to have my portfolio / illustration gallery, my game fanart site, a paintchat, and possibly an art and design blog (I have yet to create this) hosted here. I've basically done away with the portal idea altogether. I also want to put up a photo gallery, is this acceptable if it's snapshots and amateur photography? (I'm not very good yet, still learning how to use my DSLR!)

Do you accept domain name transfers? At the moment the domain I want to use is still being hosted by 1and1 even though I canceled my hosting contract, and I want to get away from everything having to do with them. :(

(Or do domain names need to be hosted on a different registrar and pointed to Xepher's nameservers?)

Just popping in to say that I've built the portal site, which will be this:

However, this is temporary. I plan to register a new domain name for the portfolio site. At the moment I'm hosted with 1and1 and I have to say I'm less than happy with them and am looking to cancel my contract. At first I thought I'd stick with them on the side to keep some of my adult artwork (since it's not welcome on xepher, I of course would not host it here), but now I've decided to jump ship with 1and1 altogether.

If my application is approved here, I will probably just dump the adult stuff off in LiveJournal and bring my other sites to xepher.

Thank you!

And same to you, it sounds like? :D

May 16th-- so soon, so much left to do!

I actually own four domain names and would be moving a different one to xepher. "kidavi" is a derivative of my real name, but I'm going to be married in a couple of months and my name will change-- so I'm planning to put the portal site under a different domain.

It will be a completely new portal, but it will serve to replace the site that is currently kidavi.net. After the new portal is up, I plan to take the other one down.

Thank you! :)

I'd like to host a variety of content including my art gallery (digital artwork, fanart and original) and possibly my portfolio. I also paintchat a lot and would really like to be able to host my own rather than forever having to rely on finding semi-empty public rooms on the web. Although I earned my BS in biology, I'm earning a second BA in games, web, and interactive media. Drawing has always been one of my fondest hobbies and I've gone through quite a few different webhosts trying to find one that is capable of all the scripting support I need as well as not breaking my bank account.

I currently have several websites and they can be viewed at the following links. All content was designed, drawn, and developed by myself unless otherwise noted (a few paintchat collaborations here and there with Nuu, a current account-holder and the friend who referred me to xepher.net):

kidavi.net - Current (temporary) web development portfolio website

Comprehensive gallery of digital art
Fan gallery for Shin Megami Tensei game series
Fanlisting

What I'd really like to do is make a nice portal site to tie everything together: I want it to host my best / most accomplished artwork, future projects / applications, and my official portfolio (webdesign & development as well as art/commission). I want to bring my oekaki board over and also host a paintchat (for which I need a Linux server with SSH). In addition, I have some printed projects (artbooks, doujinshi) lined up that I would like to advertise and hopefully sell from the portal.

I think it's really awesome what you're doing here, this is a fantastic endeavor. Thanks very much for taking the time to read this!
