Hosting Q&A / Email sent
January 16, 2016, 09:45:49 PM
Hey Xepher,

I sent an email to you earlier this week asking about permission to try and set up something on my little corner of the server. :) I can't access my Xepher mail so I sent one from my own personal email. (chalea.johnston@gmail.com)

Thanks dear,

Chalea

General Chat / w00t.... a little respect~!
February 26, 2008, 06:28:58 PM
:D Hi everyone... remember meee?  ;)

Happy to say that after almost two years as a doormat err I mean worker's compensation clerk... I've now taken a position with Liberty Mutual and I will actually be a Claim Manager. This is what I've been aiming for, for the past two years, and have hit such a glass wall at my current company that my head hurts more often than I care to admit.

It's nice to think that I will no longer have to deal with the anti-social... sometimes downright unpleasant coworker. I'll be more hands on with the claims... and be recognized monetarily for my hard work.

But it got me thinking about my two week notice letter. Oh the fun I could have had! *thinks of Xephers prior letter*  ::)

So yeah... it's a feel good day! I'm taking a personal holiday tomorrow otherwise I'll lose it... work Thursday and then return to hand in my two week notice. It's vanilla & it's drab but it wont burn my bridge -I hope.

Hello, can I get some feedback on this? I was going for something simple, but yet recognizable for my design work.

*EDIT*

(for comparison side by side)

It's black as a base to change to whatever color I desire. There's no one around my home to ask and by daugher (17 months old) can't pay attention to the comp screen long enough to laugh or scream at it... so I'm hoping you all will give me some input. You've given me really good pointers before hand so I was hoping we could do it one last time... =P

General Chat / Domain Name Hosting Advice
January 22, 2007, 09:58:01 PM
I’m looking to register a domain name for my website here.

What I would prefer would be a ‘.net’ but I could live with a ‘.com’ should it be signifigantly cheaper. This is my first time doing this so I wondered if any of you had more experience with this sort of thing and could help me.

How good is GoDaddy..? Their prices are attractive however I’m worried about the ‘up-time’ vs ‘down-time’ (they’ll always tweak their own figures to look better) of getting someone who enters “example.net

General Chat / Mune Studios
January 20, 2007, 07:55:59 AM
Well, I took the plunge the other day and filled out a Master Business Application through my state (WASHINGTON)... Mune Studios is officially going to be mine! =)

I'm excited, but yet I'm nervous as well. So many new things, other things to worry about, making sure I do everything I need to and such.

Can you guys take the time to look at my portfolio of web design & tell me what you think really quick?

It's here: http://munerift.xepher.net/wpportfolio.html
...and it will require Flash 9 player to view.

Next project I'm going to tackle after I'm done being sick and have some extra money is to register my own domain name... and once I start getting projects and payment sit down & go through everything I've got... and give to where I owe. (such as helping xepher.net..!)

Anyone have any general ideas or advise?

Thanks guys! =0)

Technical Support / My site statistics

When I went to generate a site statistic report using my account managment from the main xeph page, I waited for the 10 minutes and went to the page (http://xepher.net/stats/munerift/). This is the only thing I saw:

Back in highschool in the 2002-2003 acidemic year, I was on newspaper team. I wrote an article on teen depression which made it to the first page, I was excited! The article remained off the internet, and only published in the small school newspaper. The same year I wrote a paper for my Government/Economics class on Henry VIII, I had previously thought that only my teacher and myself had access to that work.

Fast forward almost 4 years; I’m bored. I googled my name and come across my newspaper article (http://www.coursework.info/cgi-bin/page.cgi?page=preview&link=22439) and my government essay (http://www.coursework.info/cgi-bin/page.cgi?page=preview&link=19851) on this paid site..! I’m confused, I didn’t submit this stuff, and you can obviously see my name (Chalea Evans, now married) right in the document preview, these are mine..! Though this site provides a disclaimer that users are not supposed to use the material as their own and have an extensive anti-plagiarism area; clearly this is a paid site for other intentions than what are provided.

I emailed & hadn't heard anything back from them; since this site is not on US soil there’s little I can really do. I talked with a lawyer who works for my employer on a friend-basis and he suggested I send a ‘cease & desist’ letter to attempt to manipulate them into getting my work off their site at the very least.

Take a look at what I’ve created and provide feedback? (Letter.PDF â€" 124 KB: http://munerift.xepher.net/letter.pdf) Any other advice? I know for starters that I will never see any money; this as my lawyer friend suggested would simply be a motivator to get them to remove the content, and to do put the option of them contacting you for republishing rights; but if they try to then quote them an insane amount of money that they wouldn't purchase the pieces for.

I also wanted to alert others; work that I thought would never make it onto my school website let alone a giant collection of pay-access content has totally blown me away, and I'm worried that there's others out there like me who aren't even aware of this yet. Thanks guys!

General Chat / Help Please- General Computer Stuff
October 30, 2006, 03:28:52 PM
Hello,

I managed to get my hands on one of these: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/ipaq_1940.htm

It's got Bluetooth capabilities, wireless access... etc.

FIRST QUESTION:
I've got wifi at home on my laptop and my computer, but they aren't bluetooth. I'd like to be able to equip them with something that will make it so I can surf the net on my new iPAQ. I don't know much about the Bluetooth technology, but I was wondering if I bought this: http://www.zdnet.de/i/news/200404/linksys-bluetooth.jpg
or even this: http://www.radtech.us/images/prdBTAdapterBeauty.jpg
Would it allow me to access the internet from my PDA/Pocket PC as long as that adapter is plugged into either of my computers at home?

SECOUND QUESTION:
I am a wallpaper fanatic... but my PDA runs on "Windows CE," and I've sadly been unable to find any theme generators or any wallpaper makers... and I dont really understand how to really find or use pre-made wallpapers from the net. It's just weird for me given I'm used to a whole computer with traditional Windows on it any everything.

Does anyone know of a theme generator that WILL work on Window's CE?

Thanks for your help you guys! =)

General Chat / Happy Hump Day!
August 30, 2006, 02:57:10 PM
That's right, it's that magical day known as Hump Day; formerly known as Wednesday! It means TGIF is just around the corner and you've made it through the first half of the week. Everyone can partake and celebrate!

My boss is here (which she usually isnt, telecommutes from her home) and mentioned a three day weekend coming up. I told her "Dear god no!!!! I can't lose a day of pay!" but she checked with HR for me and I hit my 90 days on September 2nd, that means this next Monday I get to parade around in my jammies all day, hang out with my daughter; and get paid $13 an hour to do it!

Tell us your stories, what's happening with all of you this Hump Day?

Hosting Q&A / Automated "Fix File Permissions"..?
June 05, 2006, 12:27:00 AM
Since I'm phase 2, I use a .php document for my index page. Now every time I update, my main page turns into a class 500 mess, and then I have to trek back to the main site to fix my file permissions. I was wondering Xeph if there's anyway you can have an option to automate this at each .php page upload? (as long as the user specifies they want it, because others can set it to their own values I'm taking it?)

General Chat / Frugal's the Word!
June 03, 2006, 02:43:55 AM
Well, I dont know how most of you sit in life... but I had a feeling that most are along the same lines as my family...

We're newly married, have a 9 month old daughter who is sooooo cute... (see image below) we've both been holding just sliiiggghhhtttlyyy above minimum wage jobs, and living in a middle-priced apartment on the better side of town can leave you stretched thin between the rising cost of gas, diapers, and formula.

I was delighted when I ran across a term a couple years ago; frugal.

It's the act of saving yourself money by employing little tricks such as buying store-brand macaroni, reusing those dredded AOL cds, and other little tricks that leave your pocket just alittle bit more padded throughout the month. Some people of course live by a frugal-only life, and others simply pick and choose what works best for them.

I thought others would be interrested, so link follows:

http://www.stretcher.com/index.cfm

I did follow another site when I was first looking, however it's since been swallowed up along the masses, not to be found again. I do know they had a little guide by the lines of "The Guide to Living Cheap" but a google search turned up nothing. (you'll notice many want you to pay for their guides, but all the information is already on the internt for free.)

Some tatics I employed were:

Napkins were too expensive... but wendy's napkins are free... and they have *great* salt. (or pepper)

Buying gift items when I find a good sale, plop them in a trunk at home and when a gift-giving occasion came up I could just pick something appropriate, and coupling it with a home-made gift.

I admit, I've been dead broke... to the point of I didnt have toilet-paper. Know where this is going? Sure ya do! I dont think anyone notices when you stash a couple feet of toilet paper off the Mc.D's roll... hehe.

My Favorate: Making up huuuuuggggeeee meals, and portioning the leftovers to the freezer for home-made dinners! (another entire meal with seemingly no prep!)

What's everyone's thoughts on this? I thought some might like alittle tip, but I think now my tips gotten too big! ^_^

General Chat / Abandonware..?
May 10, 2006, 03:37:05 AM
I came across a concept the other day of "Abandonware," (older but still good games avaliable for free download) and havnt been able to make my way back to legit sites with these --I accessed them from work the other day, and now I'm home --games on them without having come across any "w_4  r-3  z" sites. (name deconstructed so net-spiders wont index this site for that term)

Anyone have any experience and/or know where to go? I'm not looking for the newest games, they all tend to be on the older side (1996 and younger, though I've seen a very rare 2000 sometimes...)

General Chat / Xepher...
April 18, 2006, 09:21:31 AM
I stumbled upon a _very_ talented artist youth, who I feel would make a most WONDERFUL addition to the Xepher community... Her art is wonderful and bright, and her demeanor seems very kind and open. I searched around and it appears that she only has a place on deviantart though, here's her stuff:

Mayhap if you could offer her an informational email about the community and a gental nudge..? *looks innocent* :D

General Chat / Automated Color-Scheme Finder!
April 09, 2006, 02:19:59 AM
Ever wanted an easier way to come up with a color scheme for your website but didnt want to do all the work yourself?

...well theres still hope for you!

http://www.colorblender.com/

You use the slider bars to make a set of matching colors, or the "Direct Edit" option allows you to easily choose your own! I found this tool to be quite usefull when coming up with some of my sites in the past, and didnt want to see it forgotten. Originally it was ment for use in painting interriors of homes, it's become a little known secret in the website creator's arsenal!

Applications / Mune Rift (Aislynn's Back!)
March 13, 2006, 03:12:34 AM
munerift.xepher.net
munerift@gmail.com

Aislynn's little corner of the web, home of her scribbles and site designs, and occassional ramblings.

Current Home: http://munerift.atspace.com/
Additional Art: http://aislynn.deviantart.com/

I just may be a familiar e-face to some of you, as I used to be hosted here oringinally under Nimancer before becoming hosted as Munerift, just back when phase II was getting the ball rolling. I moved to someone's personal server to give xepher space to someone who would need it more than I do, but now about two years later, and being e-homeless for awhile, I'd really love a spot on the refridgerator of the universe to once again post my artwork and call somewhere home.

Alot of my art is personal expression of being a Therianthrope, while I've also done pieces to reflect times in my life and even pieces for others. I've been known to write a story or two, but at the present moment all my previous stories have been eatten up in the great scheme of things.

I dont like being crammed into the "cookie cutter shape" of other art sites, though sometimes convienent for exposure, I find it hinders my individualism. Xepher has offered me a home here amongst other fine artists and crafters, and I hope that you'll all agree that I'd fit in quite nicely once again. I promise not to let myself into Jen's apartment and borrow all her e-food while she's away again, I swear! =D

As one last note: I think I saw Xepher's pet fish hanging out with PsychoBob last week at the Regal Cinemas here in Vancouver. They may be planning to take over the world. Could you imagine a place where fish float free, and humans are exaimed inside Human-bowls? *lol*

**Edit**

A friend told me the site above wont be accessed from her computer because the antivirus was blocking it ...so I uploaded it to *another* site if others should have the same problems out there.
