Oh, trust me, that scene is quoted quite frequently in this house.

Ugh... I was drinking Pina Coloda by the pint last night, which is somewhat regretful now. FYI, as I was telling Ashley, SoBe Lizz Blizz + Whaler's Black Rum is an excellant Pina Coloda, but once you get to the point where you're mixing more rum than SoBe, you should really stop drinking. At the very least, you shouldn't go and mix a pint-sized White Russian simply because you finished off the whole bottle of rum already. :-)

In other other news... Stargate: SG1 is the best television show in existence.

...But pretending Amanda Tapping isn't pregnant is just stupid.

Or is it? Later in this episode someone asked "So you're single?" and she said "Not exactly."

Okay, so I finally broke down and got a gmail account, mainly so I can use google talk, as I'd like to see AOL die a horrid death as soon as possible... but I need instant messaging. Anyway, for those with accounts, I'm Xepher42, so that should be easy enough. Those who don't, well you should look into it. Google's gonna take over the world soon no matter what, so I'm just crossing my fingers for "Benevolent Dictatorship" and drinking the kool-aid. :-P

General Chat / Any other WoW players here?
August 26, 2005, 08:12:08 PM
Actually, since my old guild died, I've joined a new one. So far, quite good and active, so plenty of fun people to play with whenever I get online. Thanks though!

And in case anyone's curious, I've got a 47 elf druid on Terenas, and a low level (20ish) tauren hunter on Shadow Moon. Lemme know if youre one either and want to play.

Me First have some great covers. I like most of them much better than the originals. I think "I am a rock" is their best cover though.

FYI, Gracey, hilarious signature. Not many people quote Coupling... that show is hilarious. I'm talking the original british version, the short-lived amercian hack version was possibly the worst butchery ever. Really proves that point that England and America are two countries "divided by a common language."

Yeah, going to school at A&M, Pat Green was a local favorite, along with Robert Earl Keen and Cory Morrow. Funny thing is, I move halfway 'cross the country to Steamboat, and over the first winter here, every single one of them played concerts here. Not that I got to go, as I was too busy driving the bus and taking all the drunks home from such things... So glad that's behind me now!

I really enjoy WoW, playing with people online in a huge, pervasive world is great. Problem is, no matter how much I focus on making my character good, there will always be thousands of these lamers that have simply paid some poor korean to do their gaming for them. What is the fracking point? If you buy a game to play, and then pay someone else to play it for you... does that make any sense?

But now you've scared away all the invisible cyber-monkeys. This is why awareness of the information ecology is so important. The vast web of man's intertron has spread into all the corners of cyberspace, driving out the native creatures and forcing them into extinction. The invisible cyber-monkey's main habitat used to be empty forums, though with humanity's encroachment into most of those, they're taken to residing in disused email accounts and forgotten BBSes, scrounging through humanity's refuse for useable electrons. The info wilderness shrinks daily as thousands upon thousands of tropical gigaforest are harvested and reformatted for man's use. Every day the wild cyber-creatures are slowly going extinct. So before you ruin more pristine electrons with thoughtless posts, please... think of the invisible cyber-monkeys.

Oh, for the record: Wash, scrub, dry, then slather in oil and salt. 400 degrees for an hour. Delicious!

In other news, Battlestar Galactica is the best television show in existence.

That is all.

...you realize you just googled for "Baked Potato Howto."
...and you realize you just used made "google" into a verb.

No, really, I bought a bag of potatos and all the fixins today, but I realized I had only the foggiest ideas of how to actually bake one. I know you wash it, and it goes in the oven. No idea at all about temperature, time, other prep, etc. The surprising thing is that it seems howtos for cooking are just as prevailant as ones for various computer tasks. My search for "baked potato howto" was just as useful as "Linux VPN Howto."

Anyone else want to share some of those moments when you realize just how geeky you are?

Good to hear! As for "higher standing members" getting more invites... that's kind of the idea. Respect (whuffie) lets you do more things. Of course, inviting a bunch of people, means of bunch of people you're somewhat responsible for. To quote, "With great power comes great responsibility." :-)

On the overall social concepts, I hope to model a lot of it on true democracy, and some of the founding american ideals. For example, we have a congress and a senate. In the congress, big states get more votes. The senate balances that by giving every state the same number of votes. Since bills have to go through both, it maintains the ideals of majority rules with minority rights. Of course it won't be "states" in the case of an online community, but rather members and subcommunities. While "big players" will get more power, there will be plenty of safeguards to make sure they can't abuse it, the most important of which is that such power is actually given to them by the community. You can't remain popular and respected if you do a lot of unpopular and disrespectable things. The currency for the community will be respect, and that's something people have to earn.
