Alright, I'm paying back a favor for a guy who helped me get a sweet job earlier this summer.  He got a computer and it shat out on him, and he needs an answer!  So, I told him what i think is wrong, and I also told him I'd post the issue here so all of you who are smarter than me can take a crack at it.  Remember, all answers must be in language that you would use to explain computers to your parents, because he's of that generation and I'm going to be showing him verbatims.    Who likes a challenge?

Seriously, thought, I would really appreciate the help.  He's a really nice guy and it's a brand new freaking computer.

When booted up, the computer tells him that it has had a fatal error, and that Windows cannot start because te registry could not be updated.  The error is located in C: Windows setuperror.log

It also spits out this number/code thingy:  3DFEAIDF

I told him that I believe the OS didn't install properly, and that he needs to slate and reinstall Windows XP.  Am I right?  I'm perfectly willing to accept a no for that....Please Help!

I have all these ideas in my head.....then I try to express them and I get annoyed cuz they look like crap.  SO I've learned not to create on a computer cuz if I hit myself with my mouse it hurts alot more than if I hit myself with a felt-tip pen.

I got so excited when I learned that we're due for an earthquake around here.  My roommate thinks I'm nuts cuz I want to experience one.

I teach special education, and the class I'm talking about has kids with Mental Retardation.  Many of them are very low-functioning and need direct instruction about all sorts of social skills most of us pick up on our own.

LOL.  That sounds like the whole Sped Department right now with our IEPOnline software.  I'm the only one that knows how to use it, but I don't write any IEPs.

I really want to switch to linux, but I am afraid.  As it is, I use open source (Which I love like whoa) but I have to go through a slight process to make it transferable to any other computer, because everyone I know, including the schools I work at, drive the station wagons.

And everyone is making me excited with their computer talk.

Soooo odd.  If I were teaching something like programming, I would want my students to know all possible languages, and would therefore require each assignment to be written in something new and different.  Of course, I'm evil and would also require a program written in BASIC and then, maybe COBAL.  Me=Evil.

I'm going to be killed for this, and I did like the mac video.  But I like macs.  I use them all the time with my students.  IntelliKeys+Mac=awesomeness in non-verbals.

Underage drinking is pretty much ignored in WI.  Simply because cops have no interest in trespassing on a farmer's field late at night when it's cold.

Hey, that's legal in WI.  if you have your parents with you, they can buy you drinks.  My mom used to see her students at the bars.  Course, they were always there with the parentals, so my mom starting hunting for this in order to get the parental part of IEPs written more quickly.
