Hosting Q&A / Featured Site - How often updated?
September 15, 2006, 11:08:45 PM
Because I can almost swear that I have seen Hellbound as a Featured site for, like, several months?

I'm not saying I don't like Hellbound. I just bring it up because It was probably overlooked (unless i lost my mind a bit) with Xepher being so busy with his job(s) and such. (that and a few other hosted sites seem to not exist here any more, but still are indexed).

But my other question realted to the Featured Site. Is it possible to make our own Xepher.net Phase 2 Featured site list? I mean like go through our custom Phase 2 list on the pulldown and have it change each week... or something like that. I liked customizing my newsbox, so i was seeing if there was any more that could be done.

I dunno just a thought i was thinking.

Art / Need some advice on a character adaptation
September 10, 2006, 07:04:52 AM
Now I have obtained permission from Mat to borrow Lucy Koneko (from Badly Drawn Kitties fame) as a special guest to my current arc in my comic. I know when people borrow each other's characters, they tend to draw them in their comic's unique style.

So I'm looking for some outside opinions. I need to make sure that I draw Lucy well enough that she will be recognizable in my style.

First I have His image of Lucy. Next is my rendition of Lucy mimicing his style (I did the same for my BDK wedding Fan Art), the next is my 2nd adaptation into PSI (my comic) format..... Below are my characters of PSI.

I added the © notices because this image could easily leak elsewhere, and I wanted to make sure Mat's creation is properly credited :)

If worse comes to worse, I can easily just draw the BDK style while surrounded by my style. I've always been bad with cat mouths and breasts. Other than that, I *think* that the style conversion looks decent, as I add "fuzziness" to several places (ala my style). Still have some work on the arms, but not much.... Its easier since Lucy is mostly black fur.

Note: Its hard to find an image of Lucy or Lydia where their feet are shown. I'm guessing they are shoeless (in most cases anthros are), but the shoes that Lucy is wearing is something I'm introducing into my comic world. The toes and claws portion is opened for better walking and climbing control natural to an anthro (rather than a human). I'm still working on her pair since its the least of my concerns.

any tips, comments, or suggestions would be helpful. I'm going to get some sleep to go to work tomorrow, Then I'll work on some more sketches after work.

Hosting Q&A / Question about my new site, Newsbox related
September 02, 2006, 07:45:00 PM
Ok, I think I about have what will work for the site here (PHP is greek to me).

I put the newsbox on my http://fesworks.xepher.net/ page (index.php), which is also what I have my domain name (fesworks.com) set to as well.

Since I also needed to have a "index.php" as my index page... so I turned my old .html page into this, since it is not back-linked from the rest of my site (asside from "fesworks.com"), and thus I don't need to re-code parts of 40-some pages.

So, since this .php page was mostly an "intro" page, I redesigned it to look a bit better than a quick "here you are, click here to continue" page. But I was not sure if this still counts as my "front page" as where I'm supposed to put the Newsbox. I was going to put it on my home page (has my comic and news) but it didn't work (i think) because its a *.htm page... (and again, I didn't want to re-code parts of 40-some pages for back-linking).

so what I did was add an extra spot under my normal news (and a link I already had there) and reorganized a new section for a link to Xepher as well as a short explanation. I also did this to the "Recent Comic" page too.

I also put a small text line about Xepher, donations, and other sites above the disclaimer stuff on the other pages (Sans 90% of the older comic pages).

(Front/Intro page) -> http://fesworks.xepher.net/index.php

(Home page) -> http://fesworks.xepher.net/index.htm

(Recent Comic) -> http://fesworks.xepher.net/comic.htm

What I wanted to know is if this all qualifies for the Newsbox requirements. If I must have the newbox on the same page as the comic, just let me know and I will go ahead and redo the coding for that page and the rest of the site.

But Like I said, the Index.php page is what "fesworks.com" is linked too, so people will see that when they first come, and they will see Xepher links on the pages that people will most likely bookmark.

EDIT: Afterthougt idea: I could also edit in (as HTML) various parts of the Newsbox, like featured site or something. Since I update every 2-3 days on the Index.htm page anyway.

But of course no problem if I'll end up having to redo coding. Comes with the territory.

TITLE:
"a pessimistic sense of inadequacy"

___________________________
ABOUT MY CONTENT:
The website is going to be a vent for my real life frustrations. To put it out in a creative artistic way. Yes I'm going to "blog" each comic, but how I write isn't in an immature way, but rather I tend to ramble on and break off into tangents. As a "WTF is he talking about?" style of  contributer to the message board I frequent, I tend to deliver one hell of a good post that gets people entertained. I tend to post insightful, or rather things you never considered, at times. I'm pretty individualized in my thinking.

The comic itself is going to be a satirical representation of musings and thoughts I have about inconsequential and seemingly unimportant matters. Along with human-sized animals/characters/beings/pets (i have not decided yet) that will play as protagonists or antagonists to a character in some why. So its a bit surreal as well. Including taking thoughts and situations and putting them to semi-extremes.

The actual direction of the comic should tie in with the "blog" post each time I update, which I hope to be weekly. The actual plot of the comic, for now, is going to be random and undefined, but perhaps later it will develop into something more. I also plan to do some webcomic parodies or  satires for fun, but not as a mainstay. I don't plan to borrow any characters from other webcomics for use as regular, nor semi-regular characters. Though I would still be open to the idea.

The name is "a pessimistic sense of inadequacy", but its not meant to be a depressing webcomic, but rather satirical. The style of the website is in greys because I thought it would look cool, and I worked hard on a simple style for the site which I am pleased with. All text images were made from flamingtext.com's image makers. Plus I am adopting Amber's "Fa Teen" Censor Panda image.

RATING:
The content is going to be rated Web 14, as I plan to include have some swearing and some satire probably not for people that should not be online without parental consent anyway.

I am using a Geocities website until I can figure out where to go with this content. Bear in mind the site might not load right because of Geocities' crappiness. So I uploaded the other comics to Putfile.com:

This content is in the early stages, as I may not filled everything out yet, and just got the few comics. I, of course, plan to be improving my drawing methind, but will continue to draw as free-handed as possible.

Unsure if I will be making color comics as a regular update, but I plan to do some here and there.

I do plan on continuing to update the site while my Application here is being processed and reviewed and challenged. I wanted to start this process now to motivate myself to keep making more comics.

How I heard about Xepher:
Saw a link at the bottom of Amber's DMFA webcsite.

INSPIRATIONS:
The first webcomic I recal ever seeing was Homestar Runner. I loved the comic, but they don't update as often as they used to. The next two I was told about, and they were Penny Arcade and VG Cats. Through VG Cats i went through their links and found Badly Drawn Kitties. From there i was hooked on webcomics. After that I found Amber's Dan and Mab's Furry Adventures and absolutely loved her comics AND the stuff she posted about. She sounded very real, and just like anyone else, but with a great talent for expressing herself.

That was all about a year ago. More direct inspirations have come from Badly Drawn Kitties, showing that "badly drawn" comics can work; DMFA which showed me a great expression of an artist; Punks and Nerds where randomness and parodies proved to be great when adapted to one's own art style; and Girly where the artists awesomely unique yet kinda old-school/pre-schoolish art style driven in adult-themes yet underlying kiddie-cute themes makes me wish I could draw like his simple yet complex stlye.

SUGGESTIONS:
Certainly am open to suggestions, but I still want to do my comic in my own way in my own style. I have a bad habit of making people happy by sacrificing myself for their approval. I hated doing this and this comic is going to be my own expression. So dramatic suggestions may not be taken, but don't take offense. It may work, but just not with my content.

CHALLENGE:
I need to take the Challenge. It will do me good to motivate me more into this. Despite the webcomic's title, I have gained a huge spark of abition for this project. BRING IT ON!
