Hey... What if we try to have some sort of Short Story contest? Where people can make anywhere from 1-8 pages of a Jenny Story.

Then, when it's over, we take the best ones (which could be difficult and highly subjective), and I'd publish them in a book through Ka-Blam, and put it up on Indy Planet.

Of course there'd be a lot at look at from a legal aspect. Depending on costs of printing, I would assume a small profit margin would be fine for advertising costs. I could bulk-buy copies and sell them to the contributes at cost, and they can turn around and sell them on their own to others as well (maybe we'd all agree on a max mark-up?) Anything sold online through the printer and distributor would go to myself and The Shifter Archive for advertising costs.

The goal would be at least a 24 page book.

Normally, the contests have been where I fronted some money for part of the prize, but I can't really afford to do that this time... Because, I really would like to give a free book to everyone that is involved, but I don't think I could afford that.... except for maybe the top 3 contributors.

This is still an  idea in the works.... ideas? Thoughts?

Some characters don't seem to remember where they should be....  in Magick and Dungeon Legacy and P.S.I.

PSI used to use Wordpress and ComicPress... but I'm switching it to Webcomic+Inkblot because the archive system wil be much better.

Also with PSI reader "The Pirate Lepricorn" we should have names for them all soon... I'll also be going through the old pages and making sure links and such are up to date. For those that remember the old archive, there was tons of extra info and even links... so some of them may be out of date.

In any case, thanks to The Pirate Lepricorn for helping to bring the old archive info to the new archives. (as of now, the whole archive isn't up to date).

So, anyway, there may be some slight changes to the look of the site, but the design is basically the same.

Also, thanks to Mike for making Webcomic + Inkblot, as well as converting the site!

Ardra should get a similar update as well, sometime soon.

Why don't you just make your own Reaper? I'm not sure how to deal with the appearance of Jack earlier on, but it seems to me that using a new character would be better than using someone else's character. Cameos are one thing; integrating someone else's character into your comic as a canon character is quite another, and I don't think it would be a good idea to do something like that without permission from the character's owner.

It is one of the considerations, to make my own reaper.

Like I said, I had permission to use Jack before... but I doubt I can really use Jack for the future plans I have as it kinda does detract from JACK's afterlife model too much. So devising how to explain Jack is something I have several ideas for.... and I have a new reaper design in mind. ;)

Also, as far as Anissa, I actually also had permission to use her as well ;) :P She is still supposed to come into play in PSI at some point.. but for how much, I am not certain.

Same goes for Lucy. I had permission for that. If I use her again, it will be related to the original webcomic version of her, not the new to-be-printed version. I'm sure Mat won't mind as long as I use her properly... as Lucy coming back in the future of PSI is just as determinable as Anissa is.

There have been several other cameos that lasted no more than a page or so. These characters don't really matter a whole lot... even if they break some rules... because they are cameos, they don't have to follow the rules.

Sometimes I've had "Extended Cameos" (such as Lucy), These kinda go hand-in-hand with the whole "Alternate version" thing. If some recal the graveyard, I had a couple of ghost characters from other webcomics. They were extended cameos, but really don't relate directly to their original webcomics at all. However, the reader just need to know that there are ghosts, and who specifically they are and what they do, are not that important to the PSI story.

"Extended Cameos" such as Lucy, will get a spot on the cast page, because they are somewhat imprtant or involved with the comic and/or characters... However, it may not be anything more than a simple avatar.

Then I have Crossover characters. The first was Combo, that bunny from Floppity. This was canon for both comics. Other crossovers may not be canon for them, but they were for PSI... thus these crossover characters get a spot on my cast page, with full description, as these are important characters, relative to the comic and story.

Although... simple crossovers that are very short stints (almost simple cameo-like) will probably not get cast page mentions.

It had been suggested to me that there should be a "Jenny Everywhere Day" of sorts.

Now, each year that I have had The Shifter Archive going (started late summer of 2007, officially launched in October 2007), I've tried to do some sort of event. In 2007, it was a "make a strip" contest that didn't go to plan, but got a number of entries (several entries were art or single panels, aka, NOT "strips"). In 2008, it was a contest to become one of the THREE official Jenny Everywhere cards for a Webcomic Trading Card Game.

And in 2009? Who knows.... we'll see.

But what about doing something for Jenny' Birthday?

Benj Christensen e-mailed me about the potential for a "Jenny Everywhere Day". Upon research, it was decided that Jenny's "birth" would be when the first images of her were released, as well as a general description of her. This was posted by "Moriarty" or "Steven Wintle" of course (as he was the person who pioneered her concept on the Barbelith.com forums), on August 13th, 2001 here:

http://www.barbelith.com/topic.php?id=3026#post46584

There were ideas and discussion that followed about "The Shifter", including her final name, that were being discussed, but that took a while and had much gray area on when and how she was finalized as a character... but look at her again... She never is TRULY finalized... as she is an idea open to interpretation and multiple versions.... well after her first adventure (i believe) in Names Not Down.

So going from her original sketch, design, and basic description, of which all future incarnations are more or less based on, we decided that August 13th, 2001 is her birthday, along with what we'll call "Jenny Everywhere Day"... or something else if anyone can think of something better :P

So, in any case, any ideas on thinking about what to do this year?

**** SPOILER ALERT!!! ****

Many readers know that PSI is one of those comics that started as a 4th wall breaking, self-insertion experiment that ran away as a full-storied comic, complete with characters and a world. While the main cast (Fes, Ernst, Nemi, Ford, and "Fesworks") are Webcomic Aware and know of the 4th wall and such, the world of PSI, and the other characters, have been slowly developing in the background.

As the main characters still need a home, a world/universe with rules, history and a system are needed. Despite being Webcomic Aware and gone through the Crossover Wars, they still have a home to go to.

There has always been a general idea of PSI... but I never wanted to go into it originally. I didn't want to explain things, I just wanted things to be the way they are and accepted that way. Unfortunately, people like to know these things!

So I've been slowly refining the background of "Universe P.S.I." to give the comic and it's story more structure. Much of this will come out IN-comic... soon hopefully... it will kinda be an "info dump", but should work well in context.

However, there are a few hurdles because of poor planning... or no planning.... Again, as some people know, PSI was strictly an experimental project.... A project I should have restarted when I had the chance. But since I didn't I'm going to have several "inconsistencies"... Taken from the view of any of the main characters, these can easily be ignored if only THEY were involved.... but anything involving other characters or world rules themselves... Must be dealt with in a manner that is logical enough to work.

One of such problems is the use of cameos and crossovered characters.

Because I know some furries are on the forums, and this may be of interest, I'm posting a link here for the most recent show on Furries and Furry Webcomics.

Also, Xepher's own Rachel of Last Resort did the cover, and was on the show.

I've actually waited 64 episodes to finally do a podcast on Furries.

Directed at Xepher himself:

I've been thinking about my forums recently... Some webcomic communities ... well, many communities actually, have unified forums for webcomics "under their belt".... I was wondering if you might be interested in setting up a Xepher Community Webcomic Forum Collection. One login for multiple sites is always a better option and more appealing to potential forumites. You'd be in control of the boards to know that crap would not be going down with e-mails or such. You could assign us as Moderators to our specific forums...

In any case, I'm not sure of your opinion on this. I've just been considering trying to move my forums to somewhere else with a better forum model, and more chance to get people on board etc.

I'm also curious to know what other people think... I know some people like individualized forums, but if can get normalized forums in one place, we don;t need to worry about upkeep of the code and such, plus, again, when people don't need to make multiple logins for several different sites, the chances for crossover and increased posting... um...well, increases.

The only thing I could think that might be desirable in addition to centralized forums might be customizable/additional smilies...

Thoughts?

I just had tried to get both PSI and Ardra upgraded to Wordpress Plugins for Webcomic & Inkblot. I was working with the creator on the sites, and no matter what, we could not figure out what the issue was. The error continued to return that there was an error in the script, however, it's the same code that is used on several other sites.

We surmise that the Wordpress theme and plugin combo, merely does not work on Xepher... though we cannot find any sort of explanation. We thought it was the .htaccess at one point, but it does not see to make a difference.

Soooo, mostly I'm making this post to say that if you are considering these for your wordpress-based webcomic, stick with ComicPress, I 'spose.
