General Chat / The Webcomic Beacon - updates Fridays
December 06, 2007, 09:28:09 AM
The Webcomic Beacon - a new Podcast

The Webcomic Beacon is a new netcast hosted by myself (fesworks.com) and Tanya Higgins (betapwned.com), and we are hosted on xepher.net.

It is a netcast designed by and for webcomic lovers and novice creators. We hope to do a weekly show with a weekly topic, interviews, webcomic reviews, and call-ins!

Our first show is up (and hopefully properly running), titled "So you want to make a webcomic?"

We discuss some points on what some newbie webcomickers should consider, look out for, do, and not do. Brett Hainley chimes in with some Casual Ramblings of his own on the subject.

This week, we interviewed Jonathon Dalton, and reviewed Abstract Gender and Planet Saturday.

So, please, check us out and let us know what you think!

Applications / The Shifter Archive
December 05, 2007, 04:04:34 PM
Username: jennyeverywhere

E-Mail: fesworks AT-SYMBOL gmail DECIMAL-POINT com

Site Description:

"The Shifter Archive" is to take over what "JennyEverywhere.com" used to be, and more. Jenny Everywhere is a open source comic super hero that also goes by the name "The Shifter". There are dozens of webcomic stories, cameos, and artwork of this character, and I have created an all-inclusive and comprehensive website for them.

It has received praise and support from several of the people who helped create the concept of Jenny Everywhere, including Steven Wintle (which used to run JennyEverywhere.com when it was up), as well as several independent story creators of hers, such as Nelson Evergreen, Tony Wolf, John Miers, Benj Christiansen, and The Mortician. (I might be missing a few names).

Presently, the archive is up to date, and may need to have the main page redone to load faster, as well as a few tweakings here and there. But the site is ready to go, and I can't think of a better example (of at least any other project I have been working on to date), that would be best suited for it's own Xepher.net account, than this comprehensive Jenny Everywhere website, or rather "The Shifter Archive".

Technical Support / Domain name mishaps?
November 10, 2007, 02:51:38 PM
Maybe because I have so many, things got messed up.

"fesworks.com" and "TheShifterArchive.com" are not working, which should point to my "fesworks" xepher account.

The pages exist, its just that the domains to point to anything it seems.

General Chat / Testing a potential forum Hazard
May 31, 2007, 04:06:30 AM
Its seems That I was able to lock a thread. earlier.

testing.

EDIT: Yes, apparently I have the ability to

"      Remove Topic  |  Lock topic      "

at least of threads I create.

Is this intentional? or something overlooked?

I think someone mentioned a method once, but I'm not sure where it is.

Like how Comic Genesis has comics updated Automatically... is there anything or way we can do something similar on Xepher?

I heard of a crude menthod that people could use still figure out the file name and "look a head:, but I'm willing to look into that anyway.

Hosting Q&A / Question on Mirror Sites
May 08, 2007, 04:29:54 AM
what's the rules on Mirror sites?

I was kinda thinking making a mirror on say ComicGenesis or Drunk Duck or something might draw up more of an audience... and hoepfully redirect them to the main site.

I also ask because I know someone that was thinking about applying at Xepher, but kinda wanted to stay on CG to try and be apart of their Free Comic Book Day Book next year.

So I said I'd ask, since I was also kinda wondering about that.

I have absolutely no intention of leaving Xepher or focusing on anything but this host.  But I was curious.

General Chat / Anyone with Allergies?
April 30, 2007, 11:44:12 PM
because this is how I've been feeling lately:

and no this just wasn't an attempt to pimp my comic. You all know its there.

But from about this time.. for about a month and a half, I'm practically worthless  at functioning properly... either looking like this or all doped up on Benedril.

General Chat / New comic coming Monday, May 30th
April 27, 2007, 03:16:45 PM
Some of your might already know. But since it's almost time. I'll spill the beans here first.

I had already been getting permission to use several character and webcomics for the project:
http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=467

Actually, too many. More than I think I will even get to. Anyone here can see if they'd want to get included in some way as well, but no promises. Everything is sorta on a timeline. I have May essentially planned out. But most of it is by the seat of my pants.

Skeletal site for now, but it will be at:
http://fesworks.xepher.net/JENNY/

There is also an RSS.

The character of Jenny Everywhere is available for use by anyone, with only one condition.
This paragraph must be included in any publication involving Jenny Everywhere,
in order that others may use this property as they wish. All rights reversed.

General Chat / Anyone going to Anthrocon this year?

Still deciding on how to travel yet.

I was going to put this on my website on next Wednesday, but to a few forums, i'm giving the link early

This is an incredibly abridged account of my 2006 camping trip... I basically picked as many highlights as I could, and a few of the hiking parts... but it's mostly me narrating it as though I was "blogging" my trip on tape. If I get enougt requests I'll make vids pertaining to just the scenery, but It would be boring since YouTube quality is horrible and scenery looks like a big mush of green.

The writer sent me the word and is sending me a copy of the Article:
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007703070333

Jason's clip from the article (which has other webcomic authors and stuffins'):

QuoteJason Dunstan, Indianapolis, "Ardra"
On getting the idea for his webcomic.
"Ardra sort of just came to me out of the blue, at least in her current form. The idea of a genius raising kids as a science experiment just struck me as funny, and rather unique. She's sort of loosely based on a friend of mine, who helps me write the comic and brings a much-needed woman's perspective to the writing. Some of Ardra's quirks are my own, though, like her disdain for the 'keeping up with the Joneses' mentality. Ardra was a side character in a sort of 'Charlie's Angels'/spy/superhero parody thing I was working on called 'D.I.N.G.B.A.T. Squad!,' but that never really got past the planning stage. Ardra, Gordie, and Della all came out of that comic, though."
On collaborating with an artist to draw "Ardra."
"After a while drawing the comic myself, I came to the conclusion that I just wasn't good enough to succeed at a professional level. My art was as good as it was going to get, and I couldn't afford the type of equipment and software it would take to make it look better. So I put out the call for an artist, and got an e-mail from Trevor Adams, who liked my comic and wanted to help me out. He really did a great job with the characters, plus he had a bit of recognition as the original artist of the hugely popular 'Least I Could Do.' Unfortunately, his day job really kept him busy, so the comic updates came rather sporadically during his tenure. In October 2006, he went on vacation. I never heard from him again. Not knowing exactly what to do, I asked some of my fellow comickers on The Webcomic List forums for some guest artist spots, and several of them helped me out. Around the new year, Fesworks from 'PSI' decided to join 'Ardra' as the new artist, and we've had regular updates since his first comic on Feb. 4. He's been great so far, really working hard on the comic."
On his plans for "Ardra."
"Well, I'd like to be able to live the ultimate webcomicker's dream -- quitting my real job! I'd like to be making enough from 'Ardra' to pay the bills, at least. Ultimately, I'd love to see this comic turned into an animated show, but that may be a pipe dream. As long as I've got a good, loyal base of readers, I'll be pretty happy. Storyline-wise, I'd like to delve into Ardra's past a bit, and introduce some more characters into the "Ardra" universe. Maybe Ardra will even manage to get a date -- or even find the high-IQ man of her dreams."
Unfortunatly there are not any links on the article as I could see, but anyone searching for 'Ardra' will easily find us.

General Chat / Webcomic Review Compilation Site
March 05, 2007, 02:51:47 PM
Pannelled is a site that compiled webcomic review sites' reviews (as well as their own) into an overall percentage. .. kinda like Metacritic. They do use my netcast reviews as well... though my percentage scale is a bit different that most. There are a couple reviewers that are affiliated with them as well. I thought I'd post this and see if anyone here is a reviewer, interested in such as site, or whatnot.
