Speaking of remakes...

Anyone here remember Oxyd?  There's a remake called Enigma, I just downloaded it and got sucked in for an hour playing through the first 16 levels. http://www.nongnu.org/enigma  (open source, runs on Mac, Linux, Windows, and BSD)

Found this page while reading an article (english) about the various Japanese character encodings (JIS-X, shift-JIS, Unicode, etc) and the general dificulty of representing Han characters on a computer.  It's a list of new characters (called emoji) NTT/docomo has added for text messaging on their phones.  http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/p_s/imode/tag/emoji/list.html (page in japanese, emoji language-neutral)

Given how much text messaging is used over there, I wonder if these emoji will become a normal part of the language in a few decades...

Normally I'm against cheap one-liners that just link to fark, but some of these nearly made coffee shoot out my nose...

Trying to conceal a desert eagle (or that S&W .44 magnum) may not violate the laws of Colorado, but I think it blatantly violates several laws of physics.

"Dude, why are you walking like one side of your pants weighs eight pounds more than the other?"

Yup, violent video games have caused all sorts of violent crime over the last 10 years, as you can see by these new statistics released just yesterday:

QuoteAll major categories of violent crime in the United States declined in 2004, bringing the rates of the most serious offenses, including murders, rapes, robberies and assaults, to a level 32 percent lower than those reported in 1995, the new figures show.

oh, wait...

Yeah, he set the permissions wrong on the bear video.  Try downloading it from http://willsan.xepher.net/files/bear.wmv.

I had to do some l33t h4><0rizing to xepher's computer to get a copy of that file.  Hope he doesn't mind too much...  ;)

(EDIT)
The correct formula from the clip is "bear in tree + trampoline x tranquilizer gun = comedy"

Quote from: trekkie1701cWell, the CPU for the setup would be very small (depending on how much I modify the case I get and how small a space I can cram the stuff into), maybe about a foot wide.  And if you buy the right equipment, it's cheap.  Like this one: http://mini-itx.com/store/?c=2#p1601 (yes, that's a normal sized soda can)
You might need to step up the hardware a notch or two.  Our rig uses a 1GHz Nehemiah chip, and it chokes on DVDs and DivX files when there's a lot of moving objects on the screen.  (the slipsteam effects from Andromeda are really bad for this, they play at about 3 FPS)  I doubt a 533MHz Eden like you linked to is going to be enough if you want to watch compressed movies and TV shows.
