General Chat / Yet Another Favorite Band Thread...
August 14, 2005, 04:00:28 PM
I'm a rock person myself. Like Xepher, it kinda depends on the mood I'm in too. Things like Alter Bridge, Creed (now Alter Bridge except for singer), Tantric, Metallica, Nickleback, Kid Rock, Lynard Skynard, Velvet Revolver, Disturbed, God Smack, Aerosmith, Journy, REO Speedwagon, etc...

General Chat / Is it just me?
August 14, 2005, 03:43:23 PM
Yeah, I kinda figured, since the problem was server bound. For a moment I thought that it was a problem with my domain host, but after I used the direct link instead and had teh same thing, I just kinda thought that something was being done on the server.

Actually, I almost cheered when I saw the 500 error. Since it was basically being picky on the (X)HTML content at the time (or at least that's how it seemed to behave on my site). So I thought that Xepher was enabling the servers true  XHTML mode instead of it acting just like HTML.

Art / dA in ruins?
August 13, 2005, 03:38:41 PM
Actually no, no matter what, the art is your intellactual property. You own the copyright to it. DA cannot pull such rights from any user. The worst thing they could is make an agreement policy that grants them a non-revokable license to the work that you posted up. Which is what it looks like they did.

General Chat / Any other WoW players here?
August 13, 2005, 03:14:19 AM
Yeah I agree... RO does that on their official servers as well. You shouldn't need to pay additional costs for server transfer. Actually, If I do get this mmo running, I'd like to run a different type of system. Where you have a single character and chat server, but multiple world servers. That way you can log in, select your character, and then your realm. So people could get their whole group onto any server for say a quest (which would carry around to all servers since account variables is how that stuff is tracked) and not need to worry if it's overcrowded. The purpose of a single chat server would be to allow people from any realm to communicate.

There are, however, a few issues with this system.

The first would be, well, things like the auction house in WoW. That's more of a world thing, unless you do something like an auction house server as well. As for AH stuff... what I wanted to do was build an additional web interface that allowed people to vend/bid items on their characters on a website as well as in game (say you want to check or set up auctions but don't have the client installed at work).

The second problem would be things like character management by GM's and whatnot. You'd need some sort of server "cool down" implemented. That way a player couldn't just log, relog, relog, relog... onto different realms. It would make it a nightmare to track down the person if the need arised.

The third is things like server type... roleplaying, player vs player, normal (whatever the hell that is)? How would you handle something like that on a system like this. I'd think that it would be more like the normal/rp servers on WoW. Where those who like pvp can flag themselves, and those who don't, well, don't. As for seperation between rp and normal, that's a bit more tough to do.

Aside from that, I'm sure there are other issues that would arise with a system like that. I just think, because many people are quite stupid, it would be abused somehow. You'd also need to make sure that ALL realms are exactly the same as the next.

I thought about starting a new character on the new server that just opened. That way everyone is on equal playing grounds. Since character transfers are currently disabled, itwouldbe equal for a time at least.

Art / dA in ruins?

Considering I don't know much about DA I can't really say a whole lot about it's community. However, I have looked at both sides, since people were so kind as to link the particular DA pages for me. From what I've read, I get the impression that the people who support this Spyed character just don't seem to have a grip (all seem like they are throwing an empty note).

Considering I've seen good free services with large communities go down the toilet as soon as it went paid, I wouldn't expect anything less in this situation. Esspecially if this Jark fellow build up another community site which could easily be done better than DA was.

General Chat / Are older vehicles actually worth it?
August 09, 2005, 11:55:52 AM
Nope, the PCV Valve and PCV shutoff solenoid are two different things. I did searches online and even went to the dealership, who promptly told me that they no longer carry the part, as they only need to support vehicles 6 years back. It doesn't seem like there is an aftermarket part that I can use in place of it, and the only dealership listed in the country that was supposed to have it in stock didn't.

My solution, I eliminated it from the vacuum system. Neither I or my dad saw much of a need to shut off the PCV valve, which the solenoid simply shut off right when you killed the engine. Considering that it was not used in later or earlier Jeep Wrangler models from mine, we figured it wasn't that important.

Now I have all the vacuume system rerouted. The only things left to do is getting the 4-wheel drive working and retiming the engine.

Announcements / New Forums!
August 08, 2005, 06:52:00 PM
I have another suggestion, but more for the old forums. PhpBB has a feature to lock forums, so why not lock all the non-application forums on the old board and place a "moved to" announcement at the tops of them?

General Chat / Are older vehicles actually worth it?
August 08, 2005, 06:48:06 PM
Ok so I have an older 89 Jeep Wrangler that I drive around, and recently I ran into a situation where I needed a part that it seems nobody in the entier country has. So really, is it worth buying a used vehicle anymore when even a dealership has discontinued parts for it?

Just so everyone knows, it was a PCV shutoff solenoid that I needed. Doesn't seem like anything major, but it also happens to be unique to this particular year, make, and model. :(

Quote from: SilentFyreHonestly, when you said open invites like gmail, I was thinking open invites like gmail. I wasn't thinking applications to you, I shot straight to being invited by a current member. I have been on a Ragnarok Online server that did this, and they followed the same chain of reactions. You were responsible for who you invited. That was that. It even saved it to where you could view who you had invited. They made it to where you could only invite one person a week, and then after a certain period of time, you could invite like 3 a week. I don't remember the actual statistics. People risked being banned themselves for whom they invited. I don't know about you guys, but if I had to try so hard to get myself an invite, I would be careful about who I invited to join the community for risk of being kicked out.
Sounds just like vRO, or Valhalla Online. That's the server I was on the dev team for. Too bad I never got to get out some of my quests before the server was shut down. I had a quest in the works that was actually something other than the typical "scavenger hunt" method that other developers were making. The quest was going to add a new account global variable for alignment, then I was going to make use of it throughout many other things throughout the world.

As for this art site. It sounds good! I wouldn't be part of the production part of the commnuity (because my art skills have gone down the toilet since I haven't used them in over 5 years), but I'd sure register as a member to browse and make comments.

I'd have to roll to counter jackass a lot. Since Michigan seems to be full of them. Don't you hate those people who COULD just get behind you and go off the exit, but noooooooo they have to gun it and cross over RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!

Or what's worse, stupid people who drive way under the speed limit for no reason at all. Yey bright sunny dry day, let me go 30 in this 45 zone. These people need to be SHOT on sight.

That's a tad closer to what I do. Considering I'm a Kanar addict and WoW. But I've never really referenced anything out of WoW. From Kanar however, It ususally takes me about a week to stop speaking in ren-style after an event. So when my mom asks me a question and I say Aye instead of Yes...

I've also done the whole +# to __________ thing many times. Sometimes I'd do a, "What are you doing! You gain a +2 to your stupid." type thing.
