I'm happy 'cause I love my anime club friends. I love 'em so much they're not even just anime club friends anymore. %D They're awesome and not like other people some of my acquaintances have met through anime. Yeeeeheeee I like spending time with them.

I found out what was wrong with the first spam prevention thing I tried, so now I have it set up to block anything that includes "http:" in the comments, since almost all the spam did. And so far, it works! The only spam I got today was a random generic, horribly typoed "great site!" kind of message from an obviously Russian spammer. I don't get spam like that. I mean, what is the point?! And you know they aren't being sincere.

But aside that, if you have issues with something PHP oriented, feel free to IM me on AIM/YahooIM. Just make sure to state who you are on the Xepher forums so I know who it is I'm talking to.

Your mean the .htaccess in LF's pages directory? Because it was doing that even before I modified Mil's to do the same thing. Unless you modified the one in LF's main directory (or any other) that I also forgot about...

I didn't think you meant "pages" directories everywhere, lol, although that'd make sense... er... I was gonna leave Mil's WP install in something named differently but it was awkward, and now I can't think of anything better to name it (since there're "archive" and "comic" directories within WP).

Actually, there is a fix: Mike added .html to the end of the permalink on Mil and everything works, like so.

But why stuff breaks with that particular permalink setting on just Mil's archives is beyond both of us!

For now I've left .html on the end just so everything won't be broken overnight... I'm okay with that solution really (it's ingenious XD), but curiosity has driven me to see if anyone has any ideas as to why this might be happening, and I gotta know before I fix various links throughout my site.

Someone just suggested I make an answer box like "is fire hot or cold?" so you'd have to type "yes," but actually this picture selection idea amuses me more. Although there's still a 1:3 chance the spam could still be posted.

Some of my spam looks like people posting on proxies, but I'm not too sure how all different forms of spam work anyway.

If college were free, I'd have a degree in everything.  :/

Ohhh yeah. I'd go back, take Japanese, the life drawing classes I missed due to time conflicts, do some Biology, anthropology, maybe special illustration courses...

Yeah, I was about to do that (even signed up and got the key), but it looks kind of big and obnoxious. I don't have many commenters yet, and people are lazy sometimes; they may actually flinch away on sighting a captcha like that.

'Course they may also go away after seeing pages of spam. c_c; Oh, such a delicate balance~

I have, in that time, learned some things about myself that may help me find what I want to do eventually though. Key among those is that money alone is never enough for me, but I do need to be paid enough to live comfortably. I need a job where I can be creative, and feel like I'm accomplishing things. My current job feels like playing an MMO... the endless treadmill of leveling up, even though every level looks the same. I also realize I need a job that lets me work on my own schedule, because I just can't fit myself into a 24-hour day/night cycle, and having to go to work at the same time each day is painful. The problem is that I know of no actual job which fulfills all those requirements, so when people ask me what I want to do... I don't know, I just know it's not anything I've tried so far.

I'm kinda like that, too. The day-night cycle of jobness... I like consistency, but it would become monotonous. With the kind of creative field I'm interested in, my job should also be living, breathing, flexible! But no, wanting a job in something creative that isn't web design right now is probably insane. *weeps*

All I want is an in-house illustration job, but no, you need "experience" already. Where do I get mine, huh?!

Oh man, my Cutenews forms get a lot of spam now.

Apparently CN isn't all that secure or anything, but it's lightweight and I like that. It's pretty much just as I like it now, except for all the spam.

I looked on its forums and the best solution so far is to make it so no one can post URLs in the comments. (Edit: well, actually, it screws up a lot of things, so I just took it back out. :x) However, I don't exactly want to disallow that, like if someone was to mention theirs or another site in passing. What I WOULD like is a really lightweight captcha, like those little ones that ask you "what is 2 + 5?" or really compact image validation. I should probably have some kind of anti-spam protection for all the other forms on my sites now, too.

Edit: All right, I found some ways to negate spam in my non-news forms by adding css-hidden fields that are only valid if empty, so if the spambots fill those in it'll be like - DENIED! (I don't feel like digging around in Cutenews's code though :x)

But how does everyone else do it~? And is this a decent method.

Well, I didn't ever have some kind of revelation dawn on me. But I feel like I know. I know quite precisely, really.

With how boring my life is right now, some goatskin-slapping would be quite welcome.

I'd like to see designs and stuff. Visual demonstrations of your abilities. Even if your writing and concepts have substance, you won't get far without the visual side here. And without even showing that we can't gauge your dedication.

You've got to wow your audience (for now, us)! Wham! Bam!
