Applications / Application for Nexus Comics

Well for both of you I noticed the only angles you have your your characters are full-on face, side view and back view. While this works, if that's all you're going to have for an entire comic, it's going to get pretty repetitive.  Shading might help the art pop out, and try not to fit too many panels into one page. It just crowds it up and makes it hard for the eye to focus.

With larger panels you can also fit more conversation into it without being crowded. For your brother's comic, I'd say if you could get just a little bit more variety into the text it would help quite a bit. For your comic Everything seems crowded and bunched up. Perhaps using a text tool will clean things up a bit more, and variety is nice too.

Don't get me wrong on this one, though. I'm not telling you to get photoshop or paintshop Pro and go crazy on the effects. I'm saying that while it's nice, everything is very repetitive. If you look at professional comices (I'm not just referring to manga, I mean the old time Superman comics too) There's a lot of different kinds of speech bubbles, texts and angles they draw from. Also, the panelling changes to fit the scene, and the images sometimes reach out of the panels.

I noticed this in both of your comics, so they're meant for the both of you. I suggest to take a look see at some profesional comics... if not japanese manga (which I suggest cause they're just so easy to get a hold of!) then marvel comics and compare them to yours. You'll see what I mean a lot better.

Also, somebody else help me out here cause I'm horrible at explaining things XD

Well, if you only think, wouldn't it be nice if we could see and judge for ourselves? :D But yeah, we'll need a sample site to see what you've got.

That's proabably a good idea because while this network is a community, Xepher hosts Creative work sites. There used to be a lot of forum/guild site, I believe, but they usually shut down soon enough. Your idea is to just have a forum? Well, it's allowed but the main focus of your website should be creative works, such as art, writing, or things like that.

Sorry but the idea doesn't follow the guidlines.

I think that's a php trick, where you use the url as a variable with a php?id=32 or something like that, and depending on what that number is, the script pulls up the image with the corresponding number. Then after that, the next and back buttons just add or subtract one from the number.

Actually, you can see it at work on the url for these forums. I don't know just how it works though, but it's not like I have a comic (yet) to apply it to, either.

I want one of those uploader scripts like on Geocities, where I can use a username and password and make my website from any desktop, but right now, I don't think I should try to tackle that yet.

I'd like to write my own, someday, but I'm gonna wait to finish java, which will help give me ideas for php.

Anyways, I like your style, and your comic seems cool. Good luck with the application!

first thing I'd like to nitpick about would be the enter button.

That took a while. Maybe I'm just... really bad at this but I think it should be a little less obsure; move it outside the image area or make the entire image an enter button.

another thing is your comic. It's one of those "click, back, and repeat" layouts, oh my! One suggestion is to have another window open on everylink, especially with the gallery so the browser doesn't have to reload everything everytime. For the comic, get some next and back buttons!! heh heh. I'd especially recommend it for you because the reader is going from a dark background and layout to a comic page and white.

But your art is real cool, and I think the story idea's pretty cool. Good luck on your application!

I think the story sounds rather cool, and that the art is pretty decent, but I had a heck of a time reading through that summary. Not that it's long, but some paragrph breaks might help! But I think you should wait a couple more updates, I'd like to see how your idea progresses.
