Well, I think the reason people promote tablets are largely from those who have been working with photoshop etc for 10 years or so...  When you love digital art, inking or coloring a tablet is a godsend.  But it will not teach you how to miraculously use the programs to their full potential.  Don't even bother making the investment until you get comfortable working with digital.
Risking to be a bit offtopic here, but i disagree. I completely disagree. Sure, people with formal training in traditional media will always paint digitally much better than the average noob, because they already know form, anatomy, color, composition, etcetc, but that definetly doesn't mean that people with less experience won't be able to benefit from a tablet. Don't limit your creative potential with a mouse, people, cough up 40 bucks or whatever and get the cheapest wacom you can find if you REALLY can't afford the 'investment'.

First off, I'd just like to say that don't depend on a tablet to do your work for you. A computer mouse works just fine in a lot of cases, and the only reason I would switch over to a tablet would be for saving time and the ability to change pressures.
Repetitive stress injuries (rsi) exist! Get a tablet, it's better for you.

Never liked that proggie, stuff comes out too ugly for my taste :( even pros use it messily, and it's not the 'nice' kind of messy. Networking in OpenCanvas 1.1 on the other hand.. mmmm..

i think you're talking about Dynamic Figure Drawing by Burne Hogarth :P  that's a very good book, or so i've heard, i've never had the opportunity to study from a 'real' book, only from the internet. Lots of resources here as well, though, many people willing to help. Anatomy gets incredibly interesting after you grasp the basics :P

Hello, my name is Daniel Filimon, i'm a trainee artist, and i'd like to get some webhosting on xepher.net! Here's some of my stuff i've uploaded on a photobucket account: http://photobucket.com/albums/b66/homeworld4/ . Even though i don't have a website right now, you can check out a bit of my previous webdesign work here: http://homeworld.go.ro/ . That site also has some older artwork, about 6 months old. Feel free to nitpick and ask whatever questions you have :)
