Quote from: thefemnaziMmmm, I love Xepher's list.  And working at a bookstore has it's advantages....the discount for one.  But to add to the list, and I hope I'm adding instead of being redundant.....the new series out by that really young guy....the first book is called Eragon and the second just came out this week and is called Eldest.  Those are very good, especially in how they treat magic.
I loved the first book when I read it. I read it right when it came out. Now I have no money to buy the latest, but when I do... oh I shall read that book with no interruptions.

Wow I thought no one else in this world had read Raptor Red. I seriously loved that book and want to reread it now. Also, I agree with your thoughts on "His Dark Materials." It was truly an awesome series and kicks Harry Potter right off the shelf.

I am stripped for time so I wont list my favorites until later. I just felt I needed to add some input.

Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy the community. Your favorite games are on my favorites list as well. I do believe this means we might be able to get along... *considers this*

On a side note. Your font is disastrous with the color scheme I have. I do believe mine is cobalt. But anyways. It is just a tid bit too dark for me to read without highlighting. I'm not saying you should change it, but if others use the same (or similar) scheme, it will be rather difficult to read for them as well.

Updates: dA has changed their submission policy without setting up a formal notice.

http://justthorne.deviantart.com/journal/6182638/

Justthorn explains this in their journal, bolding text they found important. I find this extremely disturbing. They are getting far too much power over my own personal artwork. I am one step away from completely pulling out of DeviantART. I'm giving this a week to get fixed, if even that, and then I am leaving. I'm tired of this crap happening.

Anyone have comments on this or feel I shoudl pull out immediately? I know I'm not great in the legal scene so I was hoping someone of you older and/or smarter people might understand the situation better than I currently can.

Yeah Xepher, that is possibly the biggest problem in WoW. I mean, I love playing with my friends and don't want to switch servers on them. My only real life friend has connected me with some awesome in game friends that I don't want to leave behind as well. After a while, you really begin to plant your roots into one server.

I think Blizzard tried in a very failed attempt to remedy this problem by allowing character transfers. Once you think about it though, the odds that the two servers you need are connected to each other are pretty low. I have yet to have any servers that I play on get connected to another friends server. :/

My friends have given up before they even hit 20 and also right as I hit 35. I was like, "Okay guys, please stop doing this." I was getting so used to playing my druid and was looking for my saber mount and they up and move servers on me. >_<

Wow I can't believe I missed this thread! Heck yes I play WoW! This might be the reason I did miss this thread.

I mainly play the horde side on the server Nathrezim. I also have an alliance character on Sargeras, but all my friends seem to have ditched that server. They did all try making new characters on that new server and if I weren't so attached to Nathrezim, I would have joined them. I'm just tired of moving to a new server with my friends and them just giving up on it.

As of now, my characters include:
-Undead Mage: Level 43 (Nathrezim)
-Troll Priest: Level SEVEN (Nathrezim)
-Night Elf Druid: level 35 (Sargeras)

I aslo made a hunter on Sargeras but eh, Im not really playing there much anyways. I made the priest last night and was just like, "Blegh." and I needed sleep. However I really enjoy playing her.

I did go out and buy a headset and I have gone on to TeamSpeak a few times. However, when I was on TS, I wasn't really of level to do any good instances that would need it. The only time we were a group when on TeamSpeak was when we all got drunk, turned into pirates and raided Booty Bay. (My friends aren't very sane.) If you kill enough bruisers, you can get friendl with the pirates and they give you a hate that will summon a parrot. I don't know about you, but I hate the bruisers with a seethign passion and when I get to 60 I am going to kill as many as possible.

I played Valhalla online as well and damnit I liked it! It was a fabulous server. However, it really can't stand up to WoW. The graphics in WoW are way too awesome and the people are more flexible. I have yet to meet a complete pain in the ass. Yes there are those who you ask "Why are they that level?" or even "Why are they playing that CLASS?" Im serious. My friend went on a Scholomance run with a level 60 healing specced priest who didn't know how to heal properly. Then at the end, they all thought they had done a fabulous job.

Then we move on to those who are just oblivious to common courtesy. I've had one encounter that just angers me. I usually offer water to people who could use it and port my teammates when we need it. However, one day in the badlands someone asks if I could port to Orgrimmar. Sure I can. I invite him to my group and give him a second. He didn't ak if it costed money or aknowledge the fact at all. I ported him anyways and would have ported him for free had he even thought about how much it might cost. This was right after I had hit 40 so I was still rather stripped for cash. I had bought my mount and even had to borrow money for my training. I just want people to understand that hey, it costs 18s to port you places!

I didn't do anything but log on and tell people I was back. Right now I am spreading the love through commenting on my watchers and friends pages. I personally think this is the best way to get the sense of community back. So far I've gotten one comment on my page and let me tell you, it brightened my day considerably. ^^

Xepher, I don't know how you could possibly wake up in the morning, look at that poster and still be sane. I would probably rip it off the wall while cross-eyed and go beat something in. I can't stare at them that long but they always amaze me at how they work. >.<

Quote from: DatabitsSounds just like vRO, or Valhalla Online. That's the server I was on the dev team for. Too bad I never got to get out some of my quests before the server was shut down. I had a quest in the works that was actually something other than the typical "scavenger hunt" method that other developers were making. The quest was going to add a new account global variable for alignment, then I was going to make use of it throughout many other things throughout the world..
Yes, It was indeed vRO. I was having a blank moment and totally forgot the name of the server.

Art / dA in ruins?

First off, right on that you feel it shoudl be completely art. I don't think writing was highly respected on devaintART. DeviantART, to me, was a place for artwork, not literature. Also, dA never really made it easy to figure out what the writing was about. Sure, they categorized it, but precious gems are rarely found in an abandoned mine.

So far, I am really liking what you have in mind for this community. It looks as if you are taking your time and thinking through it carefully, making sure every end fits together. I respect that and can wait until you can gather all of your thoughts into a full explanation.

Honestly, when you said open invites like gmail, I was thinking open invites like gmail. I wasn't thinking applications to you, I shot straight to being invited by a current member. I have been on a Ragnarok Online server that did this, and they followed the same chain of reactions. You were responsible for who you invited. That was that. It even saved it to where you could view who you had invited. They made it to where you could only invite one person a week, and then after a certain period of time, you could invite like 3 a week. I don't remember the actual statistics. People risked being banned themselves for whom they invited. I don't know about you guys, but if I had to try so hard to get myself an invite, I would be careful about who I invited to join the community for risk of being kicked out.

Checks and Balances all the way. I hear you there. These Whuffie scores sounds like an interesting idea as well. If I were in this community, I would be glad to be able to immediately show what kind of person someone is to newcomers. Say a person visited other artists pages and left helpful comments as much as they could. I would give these people a happy thumbs up. People however who made a mistake in the community can easily be spotted by their ratings and hopefully that will make them more aware of their actions.

I'm starting to confuse myself so I believe I will end it there. To sum it up: I like what you are thinking and look forward to your future plans.

I know. I need to think of something that would be title-worthy though. I'm not sure if my dA title of 'Deathy, the Arsemaster Artist' is very nice to have up there. :P
