New Forum Registration Rules
« on: September 30, 2006, 09:37:48 pm »
Spammers keep coming, so some new rules to help me weed them out easier.

1. You MUST post at least once within 24 hours of registering. Just say hello or something, so I can tell you're not a spammer.

2. Please try to register names that at least LOOK pronounceable. Most spammers end up with "tram937onlineFREE" and such. Don't look like them.

3. If you have problems, can't register, or your account is mistakingly deleted, let me know via email.

Oh, also, I added in a "spam protection mod" to the forum registration. It supposedly blocks known spammer IP addresses from registering, but I have a feeling it's gonna get some false positives. If you have issues with trying to register, email me and let me know.  Be sure to include the forum name you tried to sign up with.

Have you ever posted back & forth with those N_  iger_ian bankers before? It's so much fun, they're so flattering of you because they're thinking they'll doop you into handing over your bank account number. ....and I kept giving them false ones too.... and they'd come back "My associate says there is no account by that number, can you please check again?" & I'd go "Oh! I'm sorry, I entered it in wrong, bad fingers! The number is: 1350982956. There, that's mine!"  >=D

...and sending the Western Union scammers on a wild goose chase is fun too, just keep giving them the wrong numbers for your "transaction".... heheh.

Spam protection mod is giving too many false positives. I've disabled it, and added registration rules that people must agree to before registering. Basically, I've decided to allow spamming/advertising, for a fee of $100/word. I think that makes it technically illegal for anyone to spam here now (unless, of course, they actually pay the money.) Click the "rules" link at the top menu to see the full agreement. :-)

Well, the rules seem to be blocking the majority of spammers. We got a few for that online game, but it was all from the same person, and from an easily bannable email. I've deleted and banned the culprit, so we'll see if they come back.

I must say that when I registered, I actually did laugh aloud when I read the terms of agreement. Kind of accidentally woke my sister up too....
My physical form is falling to pieces, I swear... BUT!! I have my own domain name and website now. ^_^

the spam i get at gmail is really weird... it's basically a bunch of random words, with a porn or online drug store link at the very end of it.

example: "No, silly reverend sir; terrify complain I bed have been liberated by some oMy ear friend, said Caderousse, eat silently clung count of my brea succeed muscle You thought it carriage onto a mercy then, miserable wretch! Thoffer interest stage Will they never bring that damage emetic? asked the doc"

etc.

thankfully, gmail's filter blocks 99.9% of it, so it's usually not a problem.

FYI, that's what 99% of spam on the internet is. The other 1% is a combination of gif images with ads in them, and variations on "nude celebs" The garbage is to overwhelm the spam filters, and hide the actual spam in a bunch of innocent (non-spam) sounding words.
