Applications / Candyz Pop

Quote from: CassiopeiaI guess the reason I felt hurt the most was because it seemes you commented on the bad points of my manga way more then others that I saw on the forum.
On the other hand, you're one of the few with a more complete application.  Whether people liked it or not is different, but you gave them material to either support or criticize.  It's not as negative as those who post speculative projects without a website (or any examples) to show for it.  Ticky's just the best, or at least, takes the most time, to write out an analysis.

If you don't want to move your site from Geocities, may I suggest keeping the background, character profiles, artist statement, etc. there, while keeping your comic on Deviant Art (deviantart.com)?  That way, you have both proof of HTML/website design and a place to build up a gallery without getting the bandwidth exceeded message all the time.  You may also find a community there to help you with your manga/art.

EDIT: Here's another suggestion from a non-artist, so I am in no way experienced enough to be a legitimate source.  If you want to take Ticky and Xepher's suggestions regarding plot and character design, one thing to do may be to create a bunch of "short" strips, like the 4 panel ones you see in the newspapers.  Get to know your characters, figure out their world more?  In addition to giving you time to work on plot and characters, it will also build up your portfolio and may give you material to incorporate later on.  Kind of like the stuff if you flip to the back of manga books, really. ^_^

I thought Xepher was referring to the application structure, which I thought was mostly complete (compared to most of the recent ones).

I read the few pages of your manga and I really have to disagree that it's original for the same reasons Ticky said already.  I realize that it's popular to have that kind of character (minus the gang aspect) and those mangas sell well, so I'm not going to speculate on why you follow that plot.  However, I read most of the pages in your site, non-comic related too, and you used "East Azn," which is a major pet peeve of mine.  We're Asians, not Azn, and phonetically spelling our race is not going to make us cooler.

General Chat / Frugal's the Word!

I've had really bad luck with Walmart shoes to the point where it's not even an option now.  Flipflops, sure, cause those never last through the summer anyway.  And workboots for a temporary job are okay too.  But my shoe experience with Walmart has always been bad.

There's one type of jean brand that I will always buy, strictly because the hip to leg ratio is perfect.  Normally, I have to get my pants altered because the legs are too long (usually about 6 inches).

My parents have always been very frugal and I've followed most of their ideas.  However, there are some things that we've agreed have to be bought well - in other words, spending the extra cash for an item that has demonstrated its longevity time and time again is worth it.  Shoes are an example...I'd rather get shoes from a namebrand than get generic Walmart shoes because I want them to last 3+ years and the only thing going is the tread.

Hosting Q&A / Automated "Fix File Permissions"..?
June 05, 2006, 03:25:11 AM
I set up WinSCP to automatically upload all files with the right permissions for PHP, but it also uses the same permissions for images and css files.  However, the majority of files I upload are PHP files, so it's okay.  I checked the "Use same settings next time" option, down in the lower left, after setting up the permissions for PHP files.

General Chat / sell things online?

I thought about having a garage sale, but my neighborhood isn't into those so much anymore.  Come to think of it, you don't see those much anymore where I am.  Maybe it has something to do with the decreasing amount of young people and the increasing amount of old retirees.

Hmm...I don't have chunks of stuff...most of my book series are incomplete and the ones that are complete are ones I want to keep.  Maybe I'll do the instore credit and hope I can get some cookbooks or something. x.x

Applications / Webcomic List and Writing

Given that Xepher.net is for artists (and writers), I think your site is highly beneficial.  I could actually see you taking this to a larger community/service type project, but that's just me.  What you've got is cool on its own.

I'm on cursed dial up, but I clicked two comics that weren't in a row and I can see a big progression. ^_^

"Do or do not.  There is no try." (Yoda)

I had to...if you're going to apply, apply.  Don't leave it halfway finished.  Taking the time shows a small amount of seriousness and dedication, IMHO.  If we still had the poll at the top, I'd say no.

General Chat / sell things online?

I've just graduated and am confronted with the monumental task of trying to cram two segments of my life together into one room.  I have also failed, because my room's too small and I just have too much stuff.

I've decided to donate my good condition old clothes and clothes I hate and never have worn to the local places in town.  However, I want to sell my old books, CDs, and DVDs because the bookstores in town only do in-store credit and they're locally owned with little variety of titles.

I've bought things from eBay and Half.com, but I've never sold things in any service like that.  Has anyone ever used those kinds of services to sell things before?  Any pros and cons that you've noticed from the seller's side?

Ah, okay, thanks, Xepher.

I think that if you provided a management panel, where people could add/drop modules, and then fill in bits in a form that would generate code might solve some of the problems of inserting modules.  I'll point to Bravenet as an example...tons of people use their generated code successfully.

Could it be made optional?  Some artists may already have sites and not want to give them up in place of a CMS, even though it may be entirely customizable.

Xepher, you probably know about this, but I found SQLiteManager (https://sourceforge.net/projects/sqlitemanager/) when poking around Google.

I went over to their website to see if I could understand anything...based on their syntax page, it doesn't seem too bad for me, a basic user.  But I don't know how much it would affect people who actually use SQL.

One of the things I'm worried about is that I'm not good at command-line types of interfaces.  Would there be anything like phpMyAdmin for SQLite?
