Yea, I always save close to 100% as possible. My comics used to be in pencil with the Gamma turned down to .30 from 1.00 (to darken), and then sharpened after a reszie. Distortion would happen a lot at a lower quality because there were so many lines. Now that I am inking and grayscalling, it might be a bit better with less and bolder lines.

but with this guy's comic, there seems to be too much detailing... so I guess some experimenting with saving %s would have to be done if that would be the case.

Yes, it indeed looks well done and interesting. However, I have never heard of drunkduck... I used atspace.com. Good free site with 50MB space and lots of bandwidth with no ads and FTP support, only thing is that files cannot be bigger than 200kb. When I used it, I had to save some JPG images as 95% instead of 100% quality, but it still is the best free site out there with no ads, in my opinion. So if you don't get in here, I recommend looking to them as an option for you.

There, I think this looks pretty good for the new page:

http://fesworks.xepher.net/home.php

(its listed under the "Whining" next to a new "Links" section) I think it stands out pretty well.

Ok, no problem, I kinda expected that. I'll have up what I have up for now, and I hope to have it all completed by Monday, hopefully Sunday night after my Dad's B-Day, and before I work overnight. But It should be all done by the time I update the Labor Day comic.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Thanks again to all those that replied and helped me out!

I will be changing all the atspace.com pages into redirect pages come Labor Day, so they all point to http://fesworks.xepher.net/ and appropriate pages on there.

Hosting Q&A / Question about my new site, Newsbox related
September 02, 2006, 07:45:00 PM
Ok, I think I about have what will work for the site here (PHP is greek to me).

I put the newsbox on my http://fesworks.xepher.net/ page (index.php), which is also what I have my domain name (fesworks.com) set to as well.

Since I also needed to have a "index.php" as my index page... so I turned my old .html page into this, since it is not back-linked from the rest of my site (asside from "fesworks.com"), and thus I don't need to re-code parts of 40-some pages.

So, since this .php page was mostly an "intro" page, I redesigned it to look a bit better than a quick "here you are, click here to continue" page. But I was not sure if this still counts as my "front page" as where I'm supposed to put the Newsbox. I was going to put it on my home page (has my comic and news) but it didn't work (i think) because its a *.htm page... (and again, I didn't want to re-code parts of 40-some pages for back-linking).

so what I did was add an extra spot under my normal news (and a link I already had there) and reorganized a new section for a link to Xepher as well as a short explanation. I also did this to the "Recent Comic" page too.

I also put a small text line about Xepher, donations, and other sites above the disclaimer stuff on the other pages (Sans 90% of the older comic pages).

(Front/Intro page) -> http://fesworks.xepher.net/index.php

(Home page) -> http://fesworks.xepher.net/index.htm

(Recent Comic) -> http://fesworks.xepher.net/comic.htm

What I wanted to know is if this all qualifies for the Newsbox requirements. If I must have the newbox on the same page as the comic, just let me know and I will go ahead and redo the coding for that page and the rest of the site.

But Like I said, the Index.php page is what "fesworks.com" is linked too, so people will see that when they first come, and they will see Xepher links on the pages that people will most likely bookmark.

EDIT: Afterthougt idea: I could also edit in (as HTML) various parts of the Newsbox, like featured site or something. Since I update every 2-3 days on the Index.htm page anyway.

But of course no problem if I'll end up having to redo coding. Comes with the territory.

A most gracious thanks! *bows*

Hopefully I'll be able to set up over the weekend, though I have a comic tonight/tomorrow, Work tonight, Dad's B-Day on Sunday, Work on Labor Day, and a Labor Day Comic. So we'll see. But Thank you so much and Munerift, thank you for your comment!

The Solfire banner is not profit to me, in fact I'm trying to get my banner on the exchange (which costs me $5 for a month), but I have not heard from them yet about it. But yea, just let me know, and I'll keep an eye on it too if it goes more commercial. I don't want ads at all, and have no intention to turn a profit on the site, especially since its my glowing hobby :D. I don't even want google ads. But I'm always up for plugging webcomics I like.

I'm going to check out the E-mail now :)

Ok, for those still interested, if any,

New format: inked and grayscale, new font

Comics 26-29

Slowly been "Upgrading" Ernst to a proper Anthromorph... versus "Giant Rat".

I'm updating every 2-3 days.

I suggest atspace.com.... only drawback, any files cannot be above 200kb .. but you get lots of space, tons of bandwidth, and NO ads... all free!

Unsure about Freewebs.com

I highly recommend AGAINST geocities' free service because there are ads.

Here is the Inked + Pencil...

can't figure out how to make the color come out more without messing with the Black and whites too much... Still, People have been telling me the Grayscale looks best.

Sounds to be an interesting site.

I'm actually liking the Inked with Grayscale... and the coloring looks MUCH better with the Inked version than merely taking the Original... but still would need to practice a bit more with PS Coloring and Shading.

With Inking, i'm doing better with not over-shading with the pencil, and actually getting simpler shapes and coloring, which was my intent.

So please, Comment away with these different renditions.... Also... though I know what Color Pencil looks like, I'm going to try and Inked + Color Pencil... I'll upload that another time.

But please, I would like your impressions on these styles.
