General Chat / Where to start?
September 02, 2010, 08:09:38 PM
So I'm not exactly new... I was hosted here and enjoyed the company of Xepher and some others I still see around 4-6 years ago and have been trying to come back regularly but high school and university had different plans for me.

I'm currently enrolled in a co-operative program at my school, so I switch between school terms and work terms for 5 years. Heading into work term in a city far from any friends or family (thank god) I thought I'd put some serious work into rebuilding my little corner of the web, for the sake of practice...

I've been out of the game for so long though I hardly know where to start. I'm fairly sure I won't be asking for hosting at Xepher again, as I'll just be playing with the website to showcase my programming and scripting skills rather than actually displaying work, but I have no idea who else I would be hosting with, as Xepher was definitely my best hosting experience ever. I have a little cash for setting up, but seriously, where do I start?

General Chat / Peace Offering
November 29, 2006, 04:27:59 AM
so I remerge about six months after I declared a new life... but Xepher is still the biggest stress reliever on the web :D

As a peace offering I present you with some amusement:

 http://www.transbuddha.com/

I haven't found much on there but there are some good links, such as this one.

 Hello everyone!!

General Chat / See ya!
July 05, 2006, 07:28:01 PM
Hey Guys! Some of the older people may remember me, but it's not like the newer people have to anyways...

I'm here to announce I'm closing my website on here, cause I can't keep up with it and it's just taking up space, really. I've already deleted everything, and saved what I've needed. I'm heading for a fresh start- basically leaving most of my accounts from before 2005/06.  It's been fun you guys. Maybe I'll come around again sometime in the future, open a new website when I can manage it.

Oh well. Once again, see you guys later. Thanks for the fun ride ^_^.

Xepher: Please delete my account sometime, eh? Thanks!

General Chat / You know you're....
November 09, 2005, 03:29:07 PM
LIVING IN 2005 when...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.
2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.
3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.
4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.
5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.
6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.
7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.
8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't
have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for
panic and you turn around to go and get it.
10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.
11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile.   : )
12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.
13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to forward this message.
14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.
15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn't a #9 on
this list. AND NOW U R LAUGHING at yourself.
Go on, forward this to your friends ...you know you want to!

Knowhow Trading Post / Science Fiction Readers:
October 21, 2005, 02:15:29 PM
Hey I'm doing a project on the accuracy of science fiction... and I thought, hey, why not interview some readers and see what they think? I mean, there's creativity and originality right there, and it should be... interesting.

So, if it gets ok'ed, who wants to be my guinea pigs? We could just chat over msn, aim or yahoo (I'm not sure if my google talk is working right now). I don't really need it to be serious or anything either, I just want some material to work with.

tell me if you're interested and add me:

General Chat / The things you find...
October 14, 2005, 09:44:33 PM
searching the old forums for quotes.

 http://www.innergeek.us/ and
 http://students.washington.edu/mmccain/nerdtest.html

Last year I scored "13.80671% - Geekish Tendencies " I just scored "36.09467% - Major Geek"

BOOYAH! You know you're jealous :D Okay, so I MAY not be in the elites just yet, but that's almost three times geekier than one year ago; that's pretty impressive!

[Edit: There were only two questions in that second test I could answer confidently. Best of luck to those that try!]

Knowhow Trading Post / Java references?
September 08, 2005, 11:54:02 PM
Heya. I'm taking a computer programming class and I was wondering if there were any good Java Reference sites anyone knew?  I could do a lot except I don't remember the names of the class and some of the code I have to import to make what I know how to make.. So that's what I'm looking for, anyone?

Writing / Recommended reading
August 19, 2005, 02:06:09 AM
Been reading a lot, and thought we should make a list of recommended books since we don't have one here yet! (le gaspe!)

I guess I should start..

Whisperings of magic, There will be wolves - Karleen Bradford
The Ropemaker, Tears of the Salamandar - Peter Dickinson
Feed - MT Anderson
Circle of Magic quartet, Trickster's Choice, Trickster's Queen, and just about anything by - Tamora Pierce
His Dark Materials Trilogy - Philip Pullman
Artemis Fowl Series, The Wishlist - Eoin Colfer
Two Princesses of Bamarre - Gail Carson Levine
Sunstorm - Arthur C. Clarke, Stephen Baxter
The Wind on Fire Trilogy - William Nicholson
White Oleander - Janet Fitch
Clever Lazy - Joan Bodger
The Little Prince - Antoine De Saint-Exupery
The Great Tree of Avalon - T.A. Barron
Sunlight and Shadow - Cameron Dokey

and I think that's all the books I've read this summer. I'll edit if I remember more ^_^

General Chat / Is it just me?
August 14, 2005, 03:47:37 AM
I didn't know exactly where this fell under, but is anyone else having trouble accessing Xepher.net? I've gotten 500 internal server errors and 404'ed a couple of times. Today it seemed like all the .php files, but sometimes the entire server can't be accessed for a while.

Been waiting for an explaination but since there hasn't been one, I thought I'd post.
