For those of you that view this after today, the permanant link is http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php?date=2005-10-14&res=l
And be sure to read the news article for that comic and the one before, as they both go into more detail on the issue.

But yes, Jack's "modest proposal" has gotten a lot of people up in arms. Jack Thompson is stupid. That's all there is to it.

Just so everyone understands Jack boy's proposal, an overview is that he will give 10,000 dollars to a charity if a video game company makes his video game, in which a family gets killed.

I'd write the game... with a few... alterations. In which the main target would be him instead, and the goal would be to take out all the rich stupid people who like to follow in his footsteps and attempt to take away your rights.

Bonus if you can take him out with a bat. ;)

Honestly, how stupid can people get? If money makes you lose your mind, I'll do without thank you. Things that drive people off the deep end are a little more than games. I mean, hell, how many people are, were, or knew someone who is/was stressed over the gas prices, the soon to be utility hike in prices, the iraq or talaban crap, or something else that really doesn't have anything to do with video games?

Next thing you know he'll be targeting people like table top roleplayers and larpers.

Why not do something uselfull and point fingers at things that do cause violence. Things like gangs, drug dealers, smugglers, terrorists, rapists, etc...

All of which existed far before the first video game ever did.

Yup, violent video games have caused all sorts of violent crime over the last 10 years, as you can see by these new statistics released just yesterday:

Quote
All major categories of violent crime in the United States declined in 2004, bringing the rates of the most serious offenses, including murders, rapes, robberies and assaults, to a level 32 percent lower than those reported in 1995, the new figures show.

I totally want someone to actually make that game.  I would buy it.  And I don't really play violent video games, because I like to be able to allow my 2 year old brother to "play" with me.

*Note-I would probably NEVER play the game, for the aforementioned reason, but I would still buy it to figuratively spit in JTs face.

It would be better if the main character was him. The story being modified to read something like, "After multiple failed attempts to force his stupidity on humanity, Jack Thompson finally cracked and went on a violent rampage to eliminate what he perceived as the real threat.

Systematically he proceeded to gun down innocent people who were tied in any way with the development of any video game in existence. Not only current executives, producers, and developers, but their family, friends, neighbors, and even decendents of those who have passed on but helped in the creation of a game.

After completing his violent rampage he suddenly realizes that he has become exactly the thing that he wanted to destroy. Finding that he is now his own worst enemy he then decides to eliminate himself."

To put that in context, Jack Thompson said something to the effect that he was proud to be a foot solider for god, and Tim (the artist of the above) was reminded of the foot-clan soliders from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
