Also one of my friends is moving for the summer, and her apartment was the anime club's home base (we're really just a bunch of geeky friends now), so the club is officially disbanded.

*nod* My club went through a similar scenario.

I used a highly modified B2Evolution for my latest site layout.  I found it significantly easier to modify than WP.  You just copy themes/skins/custom and change the index.main.php and css file.  Everything else can be done in the admin section.

SomeryC is also easy to modify, and better if you want one post (or less) per comic on the front page, with comments underneath.

Wordpress + Comicpress is the standard if you want a stand alone blog AND a comic (with a post for the comic, and comments for both the comic/post and main blog) on the front page.  It can run a little heavy, though.

Wordpress + Webcomic + Inkblot is newer and supposedly better, but I found it harder to figure out.

Knowhow Trading Post / Ubuntu 9.04
April 27, 2009, 05:52:00 PM
This article talks about the new Ubuntu, which I find attractive soley due to the jackrabbit logo.  Anyway, it says something about how you can use Flash, I guess easier than in other Ubuntus/Linux whatever (I have never had either installed on one of my own computers, so I'm clueless).  Does anyone know if you can run Photoshop on it (without glitchy behavior)?

I'm seriously considering going to 'puter skool or somethin' now.  I was thinking I'd like to build databases to assist in big research projects for anthropology (Native American language dictionaries) and other sciences.

3. The comic, navigation buttons, the title of the comic and your name, how you can be contacted (email), the update schedule, a blog (if you have one for the comic).  Additional pages can be about you, the story, the characters, your purpose, and any extras you want to offer.

My latest idea for "oh that seems like it could be my life path" is going back to school for a B.A. in Anthropology with a focus in Native American studies.  I have absolutely no idea how to justify doing it, though, from a financial perspective.  What I'd want to do would be in research and writing books, including children's books and comics, and building databases for translation and folk remedies and such.  That means I wouldn't be any better off than I am now, financially, since I'm not going to be working for some big corporation doing that.  I'd either be relying on grants or trying desperately to sell books.  My best bet would be getting hired by a university as staff, but since I suck at public speaking, I wouldn't particularly want to teach.

But I could also get a Masters of Library Science or an A.A.S. in Computer Programming/Networks/Web Design/Security.

So far I already have half a B.A. in Architecture, a completed B.S. in Civil Engineering, an abandoned M.S. in same, and about a year in the US Army in training as a Military Intelligence Specialist (got out on medical).  Successful follow through on a career is not my friend, apparently.

I'm in a major "I don't know what the hell to do" rut.

Technical Support / Re: Tracking down a malware issue
February 25, 2009, 07:42:29 PM
Thanks for the scan.

No one (no fan) has told ME anything about this alleged attack, and I asked all over the place.  I even told Project Wonderful we were looking into this, and they said there was no way in hell it could have come from them.  I banned an advertiser that was promoting a website for desktop porn that apparently downloads spyware onto your computer if you download the porntastic screensaver, and I started a thread on TWCL looking for any more bad advertisers that needed banning.

So if this has anything to do with me at all, it has to either be coming from something on Drunk Duck or my gallery on Lunarpages, which needs to be moved over here still.

Most likely it's an ID10T error.  :/

Technical Support / Tracking down a malware issue
February 25, 2009, 06:43:07 AM
I was contacted from someone from Xylia, trying to track down a malware problem.  Some rather vague fan reports have indicated that my site also had this problem, but we don't know WHICH of my sites.  We think the source could be from Project Wonderful or Drunk Duck's ad system, which is all we have in common.

Has anyone heard anything like this lately, like in the last few days or so?

Reports (according to Xylia's rep):

From reader Dragonspyrit

"Hi all.. I didn't know where else to post this, so I'm putting it here in the hopes of warning others that something is amiss D:

I rediscovered Xylia Tales this morning and happily began re-reading things to get caught up.. when one of the ads on the site installed an extremely malicious batch of spyware onto my computer. It's a fake spyware removal program (I can't remember the name, since I'm using another computer while my friend heads over to try and fix mine) that constantly spawns error messages and tries to install more malware on my machine. From what I can tell the only way I can remove it is to reformat my computer :(

There is no other site this bug could have come from (the main keenspot page, not this blog) as it was the only thing I was browsing when this all went down. I know this is in no way the fault of the artist or any admin, but I wanted to warn people in case this happened to someone else. I sadly will not be able to read any more for fear of my computer. I dunno what to do :\"

And then Reader KyaStar responded to that with:

"Not good. The webcomic Crowfeathers is having this problem too."
