Web Design / Re: Newbie Attempting Websites!
March 10, 2013, 04:18:36 AM
Wordpress/comicpress is a good place to start. To learn just play, see what happens when you do stuff. The important thing is always to keep a backup, then if you break something you can simply restore the backup. That's how I learnt. And I'd refer constantly to W3Schools http://www.w3schools.com - it might not make a lot of sense at first but you will grow to understand it as you learn. Go for it!

Hi!

This is a request to change the name of my webcomixer subdomain (http://webcomixer.xepher.net) to unitedwebcomics (http://unitedwebcomics.xepher.net)

You may remember that when I applied for webcomixer the intention was to create a webcomics community. To be honest it did not quite come off as I hoped, however I am with a group of webcomics now that are very interested in doing just that, only they are set on the name 'United Webcomics.' They've designed a logo and everything!

Would that be possible? I hope it's not too much to ask. As ever I am immensely grateful for this great service you provide :)

Applications / Webcomixer

USERNAME: webcomixer

EMAIL: amuletts [At] yahoo [doT] com

DESCRIPTION: Webcomixer will be a small, reciprocative community of webcomic creators who help one another with advice and promotions. I'm planning on using Wordpress with Buddypress, so the public portion of the website will be a multi-user blog with articles about webcomics such as News, Spotlights, Interviews, advice, Fan Art, etc.

There will be a largely private forum which the members will use to discuss various projects, collaborations, cross-promotions, events and generally hang-out as a sort of support group for one another. Once upon a time there was a thing called the Webcomic Planet Collective and we did some pretty cool stuff, but it was ended. This is kind of the phoenix from the ashes – people like me got a lot out of it and were sad to see it go.

URLs: Well you know mine already it's http://epicfail.xepher.net – I think it's pretty clear this is a separate project though. Here are the URLS of a few other people who've put their hands up to be involved:

http://cosmichellcats.com ; http://wf.taversia.net ; http://y2cl.net ; http://www.rivalangels.com ; http://www.onyxsparrow.com/prepare_to_die ; http://angelk.at/fera

If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer. Thank you for your consideration.

Thankyou for working so hard to get out websites back up. It must have been incredibly frustrating working remotely with those servers, and having to be so patient only to have things just... not... work!!
Doubtless my readers will *think* it was an April fool and laugh heartily.

Senshuu you should host the club at your house.

As for the economic situation, yup.  I hear you.  Coming out of University to not get a REPLY even on one job application...  It's getting me down.  Understand, before this happened I had never once not been offered a job I applied for.  *le sigh*

I just applied for a really nice job.  Why don't I think I'm going to get it? *DOOM DOOM*

Welcome Kylo. Yeah, freewebs is a pain :p It sounds like you are the sort of person Xepher is for so you should definately apply. Don't write off your previous attempts at comics - it's all practice and all valuable. Good comics finishing half way upsets me too. There're a few I used to follow that disappeared from the web entirely! I still search for them every now and then, hoping for a rebirth. More people should encourage and support their webcomic artists! I'm sure a lot of them just get depressed. Anyway, have fun buzzing around Xepher.

At college I always toted around my regular mouse and stuck it in macs when needed.

What a smart cookie you are :)  I never got macs figured out at college, in fact I dreaded sitting down at on.  I couldn't remember what button to press for the right click and hated being foiled by something so simple.  The file structure also had me in a tizzy.  Generally I'd end up mashing keys for ten minutes then deciding it was better to just do the work at home.

I find those mice that just have the one button annoying.  WHY?  Just... why?  And with my regular PC I rip things out and plug things in all the time.  With a mac (or is it an apple) I'm wondering how I can change the moniter.  Actually I would like a mac.  But I can't afford one.  I would like one I could stand next to my current pc and plug through to my monitor.  I guess it would probably be better if I could run both on the same machine.  There's some software on the mac that just tops the PC.  The reverse can also be said.  "Hey Mac, played any GAMES recently?"
I want the best of both worlds.

It's nice.  Did you have to edit the cursor though - it's annoying!

Computer games I have on the go at the moment: Half Life, Runescape, American Mcgee's Alice, Xcom and Myst V: End of Ages.  Some are better than others.
I'll most likely be starting Morrowind again at some point.  Now there's a game that can go on forever if you take advantage of all the mods!
My faves?  Castlevania: Symphony of the Night;  Ultima IX (I actually have an affection for the whole series); The Elder Scrolls; any of the SCUMM games.
