I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to say no. It's been nearly two months, and you've come up with... 5 black and white panels. Not to say you should stop drawing, as it takes a LOT of work to get good at making comics, but for now, there's nothing XN is gonna be able to allow you to do that DA or other art sites wouldn't.

You really need more to showcase for me to be able to judge. Prior websites would help, or anything showing a history of regular updates. Likewise, show that you can create and maintain a website.

Web Design / Re: comicSMS and a commenting function
December 01, 2010, 04:55:04 AM
A comment system usually isn't something you can just tack on to an existing CMS. If someone has written one specifically for the scripts your using (as a plugin or some such) then it can be simple, but failing that, I'd really suggest finding a CMS system that has the features you want to start with. I know a lot of people use ComicPress, which is a set of plugins for wordpress. There are a lot of others out there too.

Hosting Q&A / Re: I've moved my site(s)...

Hey, no worries. It happens all the time. I didn't realize Virmir actually had a separate linode server now though, as his main site (virmir.com) is still hosted here actually. Best of luck to you though... I'll delete your site whenever I get around to it! :-)

Yeah, I'm in no rush... you can take your time, but I just want to see progress and commitment. Not to slight your idea or anything, but I have story ideas that have been in my head for 10 years now, and I still haven't managed to get them out into coherent permanent form. "About a year now" isn't a long time when you start looking around at other works, though I understand it can seem like forever from the inside.

Have you ever done any comic or other serial work before? One of the most difficult parts is the commitment to keep making updates, and most new comics end up dieing within a couple months of their start. As such, I like to see something that convinces me an applicant isn't going to be part of that statistic. It doesn't have to be a prior comic or the same type of work... for example large galleries or a long history of participation on a group project or some such. One comic on DA isn't enough I'm afraid. Do you have anything to show besides DA?

Technical Support / Re: Issues With WinSCP.
November 08, 2010, 01:44:51 AM
Either your download was corrupted, or the thing is just crashing, possibly because of some bug. First, try downloading it again, from a different mirror if possible, and reinstall it. Make sure your virus scanner reports it as clean too, since a virus infection can cause the exact same sorts of errors as a corrupt download. There have been some similar bugs with winSCP, especially on Vista, so if that's the case, you can try an older version, or just wait until they fix the bug and release a new version. Alternately, you can try another program instead. Filezilla is pretty decent http://filezilla-project.org/ and supports SFTP as well.

Okay, so your art isn't the best, but it's still shows that you're trying. How about website creation though? Your "site" linked above is only a template based thing. You get direct file access here (it's SCP, but similar to FTP) with no templates/generators/etc. Can you make a website here and run it? You're welcome to install something like Wordpress or Gallery to handle things, but you have to at least be able to do that more or less on your own. Well, you're welcome to use the help of anyone that's willing. I just mean, can you do it without help from ME? :-)

... you start thinking about brewing beer again, and after a few hours, are reading over sourcecode for an Atmel ATTiny25 microcontroller so you can build a thermocontrol relay for a fridge conversion. http://hackaday.com/2009/03/22/brew-fridge-thermostat/

Yeah, that's right... beer brewing has been around longer than the damn written word, but I found a way to drag source code and soldering into it! :-)

I was gonna point out that one of the wheels is actually laying on the ground. Hence why, when I sat down in it, it fell over and I hit my head really good on the dresser. This is why you shouldn't sit while intoxicated!

Oh, and I'm actually right handed... I'm just dyslexic. :-P

Both of those are actually true... but really, I mouse left handed because I use computers so much, work and home, that my right handed started to get carpal tunnel a few years ago. I figure if I'm gonna injure a wrist, it should be the left one. First few months is really difficult, but now I nearly feel ambidextrous, which is kinda awesome. The doubly weird part is that I have a slight bone deformity in my left forearm. It basically means the "neutral" position of my wrist is twisted further in than normal. I can't hold my left palm up/level, so it makes juggling extra difficult. However, it seems to make for less (or even zero) stress on my wrist when using a mouse. I've been mousing left handed for more years than I ever did right handed, and my left hand has had no pain or signs of injury at all. Weird, isn't it?

So... I just now took this picture of my desk area. You may notice some things are slightly askew. Bonus points to whoever points out the exact oddities.

Announcements / Re: I Can Haz Job!

(Thread Necromancy FTW!)

I can haz NEW job!

I just accepted an offer from cPanel here in Houston. They make control panel software used by a good chunk of webhosting companies worldwide. While I am, once again, starting in a customer support role, this should involve a lot less phone work, and also (hopefully) a career track more into the software development side of things. Ideally, that should keep things a lot more interesting, as development is the one of the few corners of IT I haven't tried my hand at professionally. At the very least though, I'm just happy to be getting a paycheck again for the first time in more than 13 months. So YAY!
